Background & Purpose of the Job
Unilever is a marketing led organization, with a track record of developing and delivering best-in-class marketing and communications. As the marketing and communications landscape evolves, Unilever realizes the need to evolve with it, to ensure new disciplines/platforms/technologies are introduced into the business. Unilever also realizes the need to continually attract the best talent and partners to ensure it is able to achieve its “best-in-class” goal. As present, Unilever is particularly focused on evolving from best-in-class Advertising to best-in-class Advertising and Content. This is the main driver behind the introduction of this new role.
Who You Are & What You’ll Do
Unilever has already defined what Content means to the business. Simply put, it is content that consumers are genuinely looking for. This is split into two areas. First, Passions Content = consumers are looking to be entertained, think movies, TV programs, web series, merchandising etc. Second, Needs Content = consumers are looking to solve a problem or be inspired, think information/utility content – articles, blogs, vlogs, how-to videos, graphics, search copy, e-commerce product imagery etc. This role will be focused on Content by developing and delivering “best-in-class” Needs Content and Advertising by developing and delivering Digital and Social Advertising. This new role will also be intrinsically linked to Unilever’s new Global Network of in-house content studios called U-Studio. The Editor will be the day to day lead for the US U-Studio.
Leadership is key to this role:
Vision Unilever is looking for a leader who has a vision for how Unilever be sector leading in information and utility content. A leader who has experience in and fully understands the Needs Content space along with Digital & Social Advertising– platforms, media, technology etc. In particular, a leader with vision and experience in the production of information and utility content through various methods and sources i.e. creation, curation and collaboration.
Influence A leader who is focused on the creation of content, but who will also feel comfortable helping to influence consumer journey-driven strategy or working with the media/activation team to optimize content through insights from data and analytics.
People Management A leader who can oversee and manage Oliver (our agency partner that will build and run U-Studios around the world) to ensure that projects are delivered in the most efficient/timely/quality manner.
Partnerships A leader who is constantly looking for new partnerships (Media/Platforms/technologies/Production) to ensure that Unilever is staying ahead of the game and innovating.
Creative quality/output Finally, and most importantly, a hands-on leader who can take an insight/brief extrapolated from a consumer journey and direct Oliver and or a portfolio of specialist partners to develop content/assets that deliver the vision to the highest quality, ie. a wide range of content (from articles, to graphics, to photography, to animation, to film) via a number of brand driven methods:

What You’ll Need To Succeed

Bachelors Degree required with 8+ years of relevant experience including a publishing and/or content creation background

Experience working in an agency environment servicing brands and marketing clients a plus

Experience running an online magazine or website a plus

Experience making ‘potentially’ dull and utilitarian content interesting and engaging a must!
