THE CLATSKANIE SCHOOL DISTRICT HAS AN OPENING FOR:
HEAD CUSTODIAN
This is a full-time position at Clatskanie Elementary School. Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent and possess a valid Oregon driver’s license. Qualifications include the ability and willingness to perform hard physical labor and lift heavy objects up to 80 pounds, ability to perform some maintenance type duties, operate power equipment and tools, and work on ladders. Job responsibilities include cleaning, securing building, performing some landscape and grounds type duties, assisting in setting up for meetings and cleaning up afterwards, checking and repairing building equipment for safety and proper function, preparing reports and maintaining confidentiality in all phases of work. Position is open until 10/30/2017.

Job Description
Job Title: Head Custodian
Reports To: Principal or Designee (Facilities Director)
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
JOB SUMMARY
This position serves as the school custodian. Provides common and varied custodial services to ensure the upkeep, cleanliness and safety of school buildings/grounds for students, staff, and community members.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.
Head custodian is first custodian called in case of an emergency when a custodian is needed
1. Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policy(ies) and procedures.
2. Writes work and supply orders and interacts with vendors.
3. Performs a variety of basic maintenance duties including, but not limited to unplugging sinks, door
maintenance, and painting.
4. Performs various building and grounds inspections and makes recommendations to administration.
5. Cleans and sanitizes areas (i.e. classrooms, halls, offices, restrooms, cafeteria, etc.), vacuums,
shampoos, sweeps, scrubs, waxes, polishes, mops and buffs all types of floor surfaces.
6. Operates and maintains sweepers and other power equipment used in custodial work
(buffers, carpet steamer, varnisher, vacuums, and power washer) to ensure they work effectively and safely.
7. Keeps walkways, parking areas and entrances clean and clear of debris.
8. Maintains the inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment
9. Sets up, takes down and moves tables, chairs, equipment, shelving and partitions for meetings,
athletic events and other District functions as assigned, including weekend events.
10. Washes windows, white boards, chalk boards and walls.
11. Oversees individuals assigned to community service.
12. Oversees all recycling and waste containers collection in a safe and sanitary manner.
13. Cleans and polishes furniture, windows, metal work and computer screens.
14. Maintains indoor and outdoor lighting.
15. Member of the safety committee
16. Repairs student lockers and changes combinations and student locker assignments.
17. Assists with fire, earchquake and lock down drills and other school safety needs
18. Cleans up gym and activity areas following night events.
19. Washes, scrubs and disinfects restrooms as well as cleans sinks, fixtures, panels and drinking
fountains daily.
20. Cleans up spills (including bodily fluids) in a safe and appropriate manner.
21. Responds to special requests for custodial services from staff members.
22. Maintains gym floors and performs routine refinishing.
23. Performs routine maintenance and makes minor repairs of custodial equipment.
24. Locks/unlocks doors and windows, turns on/off lights and prepares buildings for
beginning/end of the day.
25. Reports safety, sanitary and fire hazards immediately to supervisor.
26. Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff and parents and resolves conflict in a professional manner.
27. Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours, as required.
28. Attends work regularly and is punctual.
29. Completes other duties as assigned.
MARGINAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Marginal duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.
Attends staff meetings.- Attends in-service trainings.
- Assists other custodial/maintenance personnel, as needed.
- Completes appropriate log(s), forms and paperwork, as required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. - High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) or two years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Thorough working knowledge of custodial/maintenance work, including cleaning methods and materials and the use of custodial/grounds equipment. Previous experience in sanitation or custodial work preferred.
- Works well with others from diverse backgrounds. Demonstrated ability to successfully work with students and staff appropriately.
- Ability to communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as technical procedures, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions administrators, staff, and the general public.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and volume. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, and apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, and schedule form.
- General knowledge of computer usage preferred. Ability to utilize e-mail, spreadsheets, inventory, and database software.
- Ability to appropriately communicate with students and staff. Knowledge of state fire prevention and sanitation codes. Ability to exercise good judgment to meet timelines and work in an dynamic environment.
- Certificates as determined by the District including ability to obtain a valid CPR/First Aid card, Oregon Driver license, bloodborne pathogen training and blood spill training. Previous hazardous communication and asbestos training preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 75 pounds and occasionally more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception and peripheral vision. The employee must be able to demonstrate strength and dexterity to operate maintenance tools and machinery, cleaning equipment, and hand or power tools.

The work environment is a standard school and school grounds setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate, but occasionally high depending upon the student population, activities and/or equipment used. The employee is exposed to a variety of conditions including wet or humid conditions, work near moving parts, work in high precarious places, a variety of cleaning agents, some hazardous chemicals, fumes and airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The employee may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and bodily fluids.
