Center Art LLC, managed by the Space Needle LLC, is partnering with Chihuly Studio to operate the Chihuly Garden and Glass Exhibition on the Seattle Center grounds next to the Space Needle.
GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:
The Guest Engagement Supervisor supports Center Art’s organization mission, vision, and values by applying work ethics based in excellence, competence, collaboration, innovation, respect, personalization, accountability, and ownership.
The Guest Engagement Supervisor at Chihuly Garden and Glass will utilize their leadership background in a guest service environment, ideally from Art Gallery or Museum settings, to train and inspire Gallery Attendants to educate guests about artwork, the exhibition and Dale Chihuly.
The Guest Engagement Supervisor will provide the leadership, direction and support while modeling professional attributes to create an enjoyable and fulfilling customer and team member experience where expectations are consistently exceeded. This position is a customer service leadership position that focuses on memorable guest experiences through gallery talks, focused art tours, demonstrations, and general conversation throughout the exhibition. Responsibilities include managing a team, scheduling, participating in programs/special events, maintaining, and updating exhibition standards, attending meetings, reporting, hiring, training, work closely with other departmental leadership, general operations, and other duties as assigned.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS :
- Supervise and inspire a team of Gallery Attendants and Demonstrators.
- Provide leadership that motivates others, exceeds standards, promotes safety, and ensures excellent customer service.
- Scheduling – includes team member schedules, day-to-day, tours, special events, demonstrations, and programming support.
- Maintain, update and create new educational content that align with departmental goals and company mission.
- Responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, approving timesheets, disciplining, and overall management for all direct reports.
- Manage all tour equipment, radio system, host kit and other supplies.
- Update and maintain departmental standard operating procedures, training materials, and other educational resources.
- Lead and participate in gallery hosting, gallery talks, tours, and other VIP tour experiences.
- Attend meetings.
- Create monthly and annual reports.
- Follow specific departmental budgets and goals.
- Participate in overall departmental planning.
- Assist with special programming, art maintenance, and other departmental activities.
- Special projects and other duties as assigned.
- Provide outstanding customer service at all times.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Sensitivity to visitor’s learning styles and interpretation of the art.
- Provide information about all areas of the Chihuly Garden and Glass Exhibition.
- Maintain working knowledge of all Chihuly Garden and Glass Exhibition policies and procedures.
- Know Chihuly Garden and Glass Exhibition emergency and fire/life/safety procedures.
- Reassure the guests in times of emergency and participate as needed in emergency procedures.
- Know and follow lost and found procedures.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- 2+ years of supervising, scheduling and motivating a team.
- 2+ years of high-volume customer service experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- Experience using Microsoft Office.
- Public speaking or tour guide experience
- Strong people skills
- Educator or Training experience preferred.
- Knowledge of art history
- Enthusiasm for art education and community engagement
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and across other functional areas.
- Ability to plan and execute against that plan in a timely and efficient manner.
- Professional appearance and attitude.
- Demonstrated history of organizing and tracking sensitive information.
- Knowledge of Seattle and surrounding area
- Ability to react quickly and correctly in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable working with a diverse population and varied points of views
- Ability to effectively communicate using the English language.
- Physical demands – Ambulatory, ability to stand for long periods of time, ability to climb a ladder, walk up stairs, and lift up to 30 pounds.
- Availability - Must be able to work evenings and weekends consistently.
Full Time, Hourly Position
Hourly Rate: $24.00 - $24.00 / hour
