Job description
Develops creative concepts for a variety of media platforms and audiences to meet the St. Clair County Library System’s strategic objectives. Provides visual materials to promote the Library through event and service marketing, public relations, and communications initiatives. Manages design projects, influences marketing decisions and oversees visual/artistic application of Library branding in print, digital and outreach services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create a welcoming environment for all SCCLS patrons and staff that fosters equity, diversity and inclusion by seeking to understand, respect, and value individual differences.
- Collaborates with Community Relations and Friend Development Coordinator, library staff, and external stakeholders to execute original campaigns using a variety of formats and across media platforms to meet strategic objectives.
- Produces and organizes design assets for campaigns and projects including, but not limited to, logos, posters, social media, newsletters, flyers, advertisements, library branding, educational outreach materials, giveaway items, basic video, templates, signage, and environmental graphics.
- Ensures that all SCCLS marketing presence reflects SCCLS values and meets accessibility standards.
- Educates support and branch staff on the design process, available tools, and expectation of service based on overall SCCLS priorities.
- Assists Community Relations Coordinator to ensure materials for brand consistency.
- Works with Community Relations and Administrative teams to ensure the visual implementation of the SCCLS brand by directing use of the Library logo and branded assets, and making recommendations to keep the Library's image relevant.
- Supports staff communication through tools and training.
- Oversees vendor relationships related to design and printing.
- Researches and recommends purchases for technology services, stock imagery and promotional goods; recommends orders and reviews proofs and invoices.
- Contributes to improving department workflow and processes, including establishing practices and writing procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.

Work is performed under the direction of the Community Relations and Friend Development Coordinator.

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree in Graphic/Fine Art Design, Marketing, Digital Design, or related field. -OR- Graduation from an accredited high school with post-high school courses or certificates in Graphic/Fine Art Design, Marketing, Digital Design, or related field. And, at least five (5) years of increasingly responsible work experience in Graphic/Fine Art Design, Marketing, Digital Design, or related field.
- Extensive experience in Adobe products, especially InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
- Preferred experience in video editing using Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro.
- Ability to use Google suite of productivity tools.
- Experience with Windows-based computers and software applications.
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, including telephone skills.
- Ability to handle projects with specific direction under tight deadlines.
- Ability to work independently, assume responsibility and manage multiple projects at the same time.
- Dependable and flexible work Writing, reading, mathematical principles; proficient computer skills-Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook; exercise sound judgment and decision making in accordance with policies and procedures; ability to research and problem solve independently; knowledge of County operations and functions; ability to prioritize and time manage; handle stressful situations, provide effective and friendly customer service; support the County's mission and values; ability to think critically where necessary.
- Knowledge or understanding of basic administrative tasks: operate standard office equipment; document management; prepare and maintain records, various correspondences and reports; answer general inquiries and refer as necessary; answer telephone calls, process mail, order supplies/equipment; prepare meeting agendas, attend meetings, record/transcribe/distribute minutes; entering, transcribing, recording, storing or maintaining information in written or electronic form with speed and accuracy; maintain calendars, arrange meetings, schedule rooms and equipment as necessary.
- Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with management, co-workers and clients; obtain and communicate accurate information; apply common sense understanding to complex instructions and respond accordingly; communicate complex ideas through graphs, charts, presentations, reports or other professional correspondence.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Prior to starting employment, the candidate must complete a satisfactory background check. - Must possess a valid State of Michigan operator license and maintain this license throughout employment in this position.
