Summary

The Office of Career Engagement at the Kogod School of Business at American University provides career development support to undergraduate and graduate business students. Front Desk Coordinators (FDCs) are students who primarily function as the first point of contact for the office's clients including students, employers, prospective students, faculty members, and staff. FDCs provide front-line support for the busy student and employer-focused career center. These positions are paid, and hiring preference is given to students who will be available for both semesters.

Hourly Rate: $16.10

Hours per Week: 8-15

Position Starts: As soon as possible. Position will be for summer 2023 only.

Position Description

  • Handling the office's front desk phone and general email account, answering and directing calls and general emails from employers, students, and prospective students, including answering general questions callers and visitors have about Office of Career Engagement and Kogod.
  • Providing a high-level of customer service to all visitors (students, employers, faculty and staff).
  • Scheduling student appointments with the office's Career Advisors and Peer Consultants
  • Becoming knowledgeable with Handshake (Kogod's internal job database) and providing troubleshooting and support for employers and students with technical issues.
  • Assist with social media, content creation, and PowerPoint presentations for department.
  • Post job descriptions and/or student and employer information, as necessary.
  • Perform general office administrative duties, such as data entry, faxing, copying, stocking shared space, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree - Kogod students preferred.
  • Ability to start position immediately.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Impeccable organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Flexibility, initiative, and ability to multitask and work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Maturity and an elevated level of professionalism, especially as it relates to building and maintaining relationships with prospective and visiting employers.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products.
