Title: Food Service & Sanitation AssistantReports To: Food Service & Sanitation Supervisor
Location: Atwood Center
Starting Rate: $16.00
Length of Season: Year - Round
Summary of Duties:
Include but are not limited to the following
- Cooks and assists Food Service & Sanitation Supervisor in the preparation of and serve up to 3 meals per day to program participants and staff ensuring proper quantities and quality.
- Ensures food service sanitation standards in kitchen and dining area by cleaning floors, surfaces and food prep equipment and following proper Illinois Department of Public Health and Winnebago County Health Department standards
- Assists Food Service & Sanitation Manager in the planning of weekly menus
- Operates dishwasher and put away clean dishes
- Assists in the placement of food and supply orders and inventory control.
- Receives, verifies and stocks incoming food and supplies
- Ensures dining hall is properly set and tables and salad bar are sanitized
- Washes, dries, and puts away all kitchen associated linens. (Aprons, towels, etc.)
- Performs sanitation and heavy cleaning prior to end of season shut down and the beginning of season start up by deep cleaning stove, cupboards, racks, shelves, etc.
- Prepares dining hall for weekend retreats
- Host and provide meal service for weekend retreats as needed.
- Works with staff and participants to ensure customer satisfaction with the food services provided
- Provide excellent customer service to all program participants, patrons and staff
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalency
- 1 to 2 years of work experience in the same or similar field preferred
- Winnebago County Sanitation Certificate (Must obtain within 6 months of employment)
- Proficient in written and oral communication
- Facility Management Skills
- Maintains current First Aid, CPR and AED certifications (Can be obtained through the Rockford Park District)
- Proficient with a variety of kitchen equipment
- Practical knowledge of chemicals and how to use them safely
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment during food service

Exerting up to 20 lbs. of force frequently
Exerting up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects
- Standing and walking for sustained periods of time
- Exposure to high temperatures from grill, fryer, dishwasher, etc.
- Equipment hazards such as burns or scalds from stove, grill or oven or cuts from utensils.
- Works with hazardous chemicals (i.e. kitchen cleaners, dish washer soap, etc.)
- This position is stationed indoors.
- This is a physically active position that involves stamina.
