Job description

This role provides support to food scientists in the timely completion of specific research and development of biotechnology food products. Assures that equipment is properly assembled, set up, operated and cleaned. Assists with special customer presentations and sample preparation for such presentations. Assists in coordinating supply of ingredients, fiber and adequate supply of processing ingredients required for research sample production. Performs work assigned by others. Contributes independently.

The Findlay Family Group of businesses has been in operation for over 100 years, and is currently in its fourth generation of family management with the fifth oncoming. Originally a local bread bakery, we grew into the largest plant bread producer on the East Coast of New Zealand. In the 1990's we further developed into manufacturing Panko bread crumbs, Conventional Breadcrumbs and Batter coating systems.

Two Powder Blending sites were built in Idaho USA to provide Batter Coating solutions primarily to produce specialist coatings for French fries. Findlay Food Coatings Ltd was established in 2013 to operate in the USA.

Responsibility

• Implement and adhere to strict food safety procedures while following good manufacturing practices in the production of all samples for internal research, customer research, and consumer testing into new and modified products.
• Coordinate supply of ingredients and adequate supply of processing ingredients required for research sample production. Ordering will include direct interaction with operations personnel and R&D management.
• Assist research staff with project documentation that contributes to the protection of Findlay Food Coatings confidentiality and intellectual property by: accurate input of analytical results into experimental orders, contribute to project results and discussion through skilled observation and input to the research scientists.
• Lead smaller research projects on the batch or continuous line from project design through completion.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
General

• Ensure Safe practices are observed by yourself and to lead others if bad practice is observed

• Alignment with our Strategic Plan.
• Compliance to our Health & Safety Programs and the programs at the Simplot Technical Center and FFCL plant.
• Compliance with Quality and Food Safety Programs.
• Assist the senior scientist with practical R&D activities including formulation prep, product/ingredient testing and internal R&D inventory management.
• Understand the key quality attributes of coatings and be able to proactively communicate discrepancies to team members.
• Assist the senior scientist with on-site technical support and product development for FFCL at customer trials and product launches as required.
• Key contact for activities between sites that involve R&D products and ingredients.
• Maintain alignment with customer’s product development processes and procedures.
• Coordinate and assist with setup and approval of new suppliers and ingredients.
• Maintain end-to-end data integrity within recipe and product development systems.
• Assist teams with innovation initiatives.
• Provide support to the visiting Findlay Team as required.
• To contribute and add value to FFCL through continuous improvements of processes, systems and practices.
• Ensure that all generations of knowledge and experience are considered, treated respectfully and where possible, recorded/documented.

Experience /Specific skills and knowledge

• At least three years practical experience in the food industry
• Demonstrated experience in all aspects of Food Safety, HACCP, GMP, BRC, Allergen, and management
• Team player to achieve overall goals

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.00 - $28.00 per hour
