POSITION: Fitness Instructor

DEPARTMENT: Recreation & Fitness

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Recreation & Fitness Manager

We are seeking an individual to serve as an enthusiastic, energetic group fitness instructor to lead fitness classes. Someone who teaches safe and effective fitness classes while encouraging and empowering our members to reach their fitness goals.

CANDIDATE:

• Minimum of one year of experience leading group exercise classes
• Nationally accredited group exercise certification (e.g. AFAA, ACE, ACSM, NETA)
• Instructors teaching licensed/branded formats (e.g. Zumba, Yoga) must also be trained and licensed to teach those specific formats
• Current CPR/AED certification (First Aid certification is strongly desired) or willing to receive certification within 90 days of employment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

• Ability to multi-task and provide safe and exceptional customer service to the public with professional and effective communication skills.
• The ability to prioritize and organize effective group classes.
• The ability to operate and use a computer.
• Follow all safety protocol, and mandatory reporter requirements.
• Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and maintain a safe driving record.
• May be required to work flexible hours as needed.
• This position requires the ability to see, talk, hear, stand, walk, sit, and use hands to finger, handle or feel. It also requires the ability to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Requires the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Work is performed primarily in a city community center or related facility. Some activities may be performed outdoors, where incumbents are exposed to varying temperatures, but seldom in inclement weather. Conditions may necessitate working in or around ice and snow.

FUNCTIONS OF POSITION:

• Enthusiastic about group exercise classes and enjoy creating and delivering new, fresh and innovative routines
• Confident in your professionalism by reporting on-time with a positive attitude and a passion to motivate others
• A professional who is collaborative and a flexible leader in and out of the community center.
• Works in coordination with the manager in reporting and statistical documentation.
• Maintain a safe work environment. Report all facility issues to the Recreation & Fitness Manager.
• Communicates and reports comments and suggestions of members and guests including suggestions for program/activity recommendations.
• Be consistent in teaching weekly classes while starting and ending classes as designated and approved by the Recreation & Fitness Manager.
• As a professional, be prepared and teach appropriate and safe fitness and/or aerobics classes to members, guests, and employees.
• Attend all required department and facility meetings and training as assigned.
• Maintain and report damaged equipment and properly maintain classroom structure and cleanliness.
• Attend all relevant training and community events as required.

PART-TIME POSITION:

• 1-5 hours weekly
• $18 -$28 per class for fitness instruction (depending on experience and certifications)
