Northwood Technical College is seeking applications from qualified candidates for a full-time Fire Services Director at Any Campus Location. (Ashland, New Richmond, Rice Lake, or Superior) *Update made to the minimum qualifications.
Position Overview

- Assist the Dean of Public Safety in collaborating with students, faculty, and staff to continually improve programming and learning processes.
- This position will achieve course programming goals established by the Academic Affairs Division by developing clear and effective training plans, consistent with program requirements, which are cost effective and meet the needs of regional stakeholders.
- This position requires scheduling flexibility in order to maintain a regular campus presence as well as meet responsibilities that occur off campus during evenings and weekends.
- This position will oversee the safety of students and faculty in consideration of the demands of emergency services training.
- Develop and maintain relationships in the Northwood Tech region by providing excellent customer service and follow-through as measured by approved divisional metrics.
- Maintain relationships with State Fire Training Office, Local Fire Service Agencies, Wisconsin Emergency Management, County Emergency Managers, other WTCS districts, State Fire Associations, and other relevant stakeholders in accordance with the Wisconsin Technical College System regulations.
- Investigate, develop, and promote new firefighting and technical rescue training programs and curriculum (including alternative delivery methods, technology, simulation units) and partnerships that will identify Northwood Tech as a provider of emergency services training while meeting student training needs.
- Oversee districtwide scheduling and promotion of all firefighting and technical rescue training courses and certification testing.
- Coordinate advisory committee meetings with external stakeholders.
- Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate regional Fire Training Managers and program instructors to provide effective instruction through training programs.
- Review and ensure appropriate credentialing and certification of Fire Training Managers and instructional staff.
- Manage and supervise Public Safety Equipment technicians assigned to the Fire Services Program.
- Oversee and manage the effective maintenance and logistics of the College’s emergency services equipment
- Oversee departmental budget, major equipment, and operational spending plan
- Coordinate and direct ongoing programming assessment of curriculum, equipment, instructional and support staff using established metrics
- Serve as the liaison between Northwood Tech and the Wisconsin Technical College System Fire Education Office.
- Coordinate opportunities among stakeholders with similar training needs within the district, sharing associated information and best practices.
- Work through the Academic Affairs Division and the college marketing team to provide regular communication to stakeholders
- Other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements
Exerting up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in related field (*updated qualification with reposting)
- Four years related work experience
- One year supervisory/leadership experience
- Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally
- Ability to contribute to a team environment while maintaining accountability and motivation in self and others
- Strong customer service skills that focus on diversity, community, and continuous quality improvement
- Problem-solving skills that employ critical thinking
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite and the ability to effectively apply technology to tasks and projects
- Experience leading projects through time management and effective delegation
- Certified Emergency Services Instructor I
- Ability to obtain driver’s license and insurance coverage in accordance with College policy
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in developing training programs for business and industry
- Certified Emergency Services Instructor II
- Knowledge of budget development/management and operational spending
Salary
FY23 Salary - Grade M - $68,601 / year
