General Statement
The Farm Operations Manager at the Western Triangle Ag Research Center will work closely and in concert with the Superintendent, Department Head, on-site faculty, other cooperating faculty as well as professionals in executing research and education efforts at the center. This position is expected to work primarily independently. It is responsible for daily supervision of classified employees and student labor, and for maintenance of WTARC facilities and will be the primary liaison for all crop related activities and projects.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Help manage space allocations between on-site and off-site faculty & staff.
  • Manage day-to-day agricultural operations at the center; working in concert with the Superintendent, other faculty, and professional staff.
  • Manage soil testing and prescriptions via field sampling
  • Plant, manage and harvest commodity and foundation seed production fields.
  • Provide assistance to research investigators in planning, planting, managing, harvesting, and processing research plots per project protocol.
  • Purchase and apply fertilizer and farm chemicals per prescriptions for commodity and foundation seed production fields, and in research fields via other specific protocols as instructed by research investigators.
  • Maintain the pesticide and fertilizer inventory at the WTARC and manage applications.
  • Plan and coordinate the timely custom planting, management, and harvesting of commodity crops, as appropriate.
  • Coordinate with superintendent to facilitate safety training for farm operations related activities.
  • Maintenance and repair of WTARC vehicles and equipment including all research equipment.
  • Maintain and repair WTARC facilities and grounds.
  • Be responsible to maintain records of: Pesticide applications, carryover restrictions, and other associated information that impacts crop ground management. Soil nutrient inventories and fertilizer applications. Crop yields and associated storage of commodities produced. Foundation Seed Production and storage
