Make the Road New York (MRNY) builds the power of immigrant and working-class communities to achieve dignity and justice through organizing, policy innovation, transformative education, and survival services. Make the Road New York operates community centers in Bushwick, Brooklyn; Jackson Heights, Queens; Port Richmond, Staten Island; Brentwood, Long Island and White Plains, Westchester County. With a membership of 24,000, MRNY tackles the critical issues facing our communities, including workplace justice, tenants’ rights, immigrant rights and civil rights, TGNCIQ justice, public education, health care access, and immigration reform. (TGNCIQ = transgender, gender non-conforming, intersex and queer) ). Make the Road New York is in a bargain agreement with National Organization of Legal Services Workers (NOLSW).

MRNY is a multi-service organization. Our member-led organizing committees - which work on the issues named above - implement strategies to combat shared problems, and develop leadership and the capacity for civic participation. We also provide an array of high-quality bilingual services: We offer English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Spanish-language literacy, computer literacy, citizenship preparation, and in-school and after-school youth programs. We have a robust legal program that offers direct representation across a spectrum of practice areas, including employment law, immigration law, housing and benefits, and TGNCIQ civil rights; we also take on impact litigation as a strategy for achieving broad change. Our health program offers facilitated enrollment into health insurance programs and SNAP benefits, a community health worker home visit program, nutrition education and emergency food pantries, health care navigation, and more."

Current Opening:

Make the Road New York (MRNY) seeks a full-time Executive Assistant committed to getting results in a fast-paced environment and able to handle complex competing priorities with a portfolio including schedule management, records and reports, work and meeting preparation.

Serving as the key point of contact for MRNY’s Executive Team, the Executive Assistant will support the Executive Team to maximize their impact and further our mission. This position will engage and work closely with a range of individuals from within and outside of the organization to coordinate projects and initiatives. They must demonstrate effective and efficient project management and must be capable of exercising initiative, discretion and good judgment. Strong writing skills, professionalism, confidentiality, and bilingual (English/Spanish) skills are crucial to this role.

Key Responsibilities but not limited to:

  • Strategic management and oversight of the Executive’s team calendars
  • Maximize strategic communications, and commitments for the Executive Team, including scheduling and confirming internal and external meetings and tracking progress of certain conversations and projects.
  • Support the Executive Team for meetings and engagements
  • Ensure that meetings, deadlines, presentations, and other duties of the Executive Team are carried out seamlessly
  • Manage all administrative support for the Executive Team including facilitating signatures, reviewing documents, travel support, logistical support, expense reports & reimbursements, and time sheets.
  • Other duties as assigned include project management of special projects, event support and initiatives.

Requirements:

  • Eligible to work in the U.S
  • Required to be fully vaccinated with an FDA approved COVID-19 vaccine prior first day of employment.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in office management systems and procedures
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Bilingual fluency in English/Spanish

  • Effective communication skills. The ability to clearly communicate with the Executive Team and others in the organization is paramount; especially in fast-paced moments, you’ll need to be clear and ask for clarity in return.
  • Top-notch organization skills. If the books on your bookshelf are in alphabetical order, your notes utilize colors with specific meanings, and you find long to-do lists energizing, we want to talk to you! There’s a lot to keep track of in this role, and nothing can fall through the cracks. Meeting deadlines is key.
  • A sense of ownership. The Executive Assistant allows our Executive Team to perform at the highest possible level. A successful candidate will be responsive but also proactive, addressing needs that our Executive Team may not even be aware of. Importantly, you’re able to work calmly and intentionally under pressure.
  • A commitment to confidentiality. In this role, you’ll have a window into movement and organizational politics at the highest level – confidentiality is key.
  • Strong writing skills. You will be asked to draft documents, edit others, and communicate with a variety of internal and outside stakeholders.
  • 3-5 years in a high level administrative assistant role.

Salary and Benefits:

Starting salary is based on a scale set by a democratically-elected personnel committee and will depend on factors such as experience and education. MRNY offers an excellent benefit package including health insurance, 401K, and generous paid vacation, sick, personal days. The salary range for this position is from $49,023 to $66,370
