Occupational Summary

The Office of the Vice Dean for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in the School of Medicine works to advance the school’s goals of cultivating an inclusive, welcoming, respectful and supportive working and learning environment. The Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Metrics Analyst supports efforts to research, evaluate progress, and compile and synthesize data that in part informs the direction of the organization’s strategic goals in equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI). Key efforts include supporting the collection, analysis, visualization and reporting on EDI data, metrics, and program effectiveness to support the development and advancement of EDI strategies across the School and within its units. The Metrics Analyst reports to the School of Medicine Director of EDI Assessment and Research and contributes to senior EDI leadership and team efforts in assessment of strategy impact and effectiveness, including conducting statistical and qualitative data analyses and developing dashboards and tools that systematize reporting on outcomes and progress measures.


Work Performed

Efforts of the Metrics Analyst include but are not limited to the following:

  • Solicit, compile and maintain School of Medicine and unit-level data and reports in EDI domains, including but not limited to:
    • Diversity among leadership, faculty, staff and learners, including representation, candidate/applicant pools, recruitments, admissions/matriculation/graduation, retention, promotion, tenure, and departures.
    • Equity in opportunities and experience, including compensation, professional development, career advancement opportunities, and pipeline development efforts.
    • Inclusive excellence in work and learning environments, including education in EDI for our leadership, faculty, staff and learners, inclusive leadership reviews, and experiences of the culture via surveys and other approaches, including reports of bias and discrimination.

  • Coordinate efforts with offices in the School, University and Health System to create and maintain an accessible EDI data dashboard to allow leaders of the School and its units to monitor performance and progress across a spectrum of quantitative and qualitative metrics. Provide training and consultation on access and use of dashboards and other reporting tools.

  • Manage existing and support development of new dashboards in Tableau or other enterprise analytics platforms, including coordinating regular data requests, data source updates, ongoing quality and use enhancements and access lists.

  • Monitor progress and perform statistical and qualitative data trend analysis for School EDI metrics and prepare reports for the VDDEI and stakeholders. Assist the Director of EDI Assessment and leaders in interpreting results and assessing progress and opportunities for longitudinal EDI goals. Develop and maintain unit summary reports on EDI key performance metrics to enhance consistent reporting across Departments, Institutes and Centers.

  • Support development of reports on EDI strategic plans, grant funding requirements, accreditation, racial equity and other EDI initiatives, and proactive measures related to internal and external reviews and audits (e.g., OFCCP, LCME) through reporting on progress and outcomes measures that inform the ongoing direction of efforts.
  • Coordinate established assessment processes for programs managed by the Office of EDI, including but not limited to education and professional development programs, retention and recruitment initiatives, and select outreach, engagement and pathways programs. Support development of EDI program assessment efforts, such as inclusive excellence education and pipeline and pathways programs, through instrument development, deployment, data management and development of analyses and reports.
    • Manage survey and other evaluation instrument processes and create summary reports to support formative and summative assessment of programs.
    • Summarize themes and trends using quantitative and qualitative data and approaches.
  • Develop ad hoc analyses and reports in response to emergent institutional requests and requirements, such as departmental requests for culture, diversity and equity data.

  • Support culture assessment efforts for the School, including the Duke Culture Survey, Health System Culture Pulse, and other efforts, and provide comparative statistical and qualitative data analysis across surveys to identify patterns and trends to inform recommendations.

  • Support emergent EDI data collection efforts, such as development and deployment of assessment or survey instruments, interview or focus group guides, and rubrics for analysis of content of policies or programs.

  • Ensure timeliness, accuracy, data integrity, and confidentiality. Uphold proper data maintenance and reporting standards as defined by the University and key oversight organizations.

  • Participate in EDI strategic planning, task force, and working groups as appropriate.

  • Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training:


Requires a Master's degree.




Experience:


Preferred minimum of three years of related equity, diversity and inclusion or other program analysis experience working with data collection and reporting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. An advanced degree with additional years of related analytical experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is strongly preferred.



Skills:


Utilize visualization, statistical and qualitative data analysis software, such as Tableau, R, Stata, Excel and NVIVO, to enhance quality and replication of analyses.

Utilize survey and other enterprise programs, such as Qualtrics, REDCap, Learning Management Systems, SAP.
