Equipment Operator - Pipelines

SALARY: $29.89

JOB SUMMARY:

JOB SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Water Distribution Supervisor operates a variety of heavy construction equipment used to assist in the maintenance and repair of the water distribution system. Is on call on a rotational basis a week at a time for emergency repair work as required
Excavation skills performance test will be required as part of the hiring/evaluation process.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operates a variety of heavy construction equipment including rubber tire backhoe loader, track excavator, mini track excavator, dozer, skid steer loader, rubber tire and track end loader, hydraulic and cable cranes, road grader, semi-tractor trailer, and dump trucks with air brakes used in the maintenance and repair of the water distribution system.
Inspects and maintains equipment. Makes request for repairs when needed.
Delivers, loads, and unloads materials and heavy equipment to and from job sites.
Performs valve and hydrant maintenance and inspection, operating valves using proper procedures and torque tables, cleans and repairs valve boxes, and determines source of malfunction.
Installs taps, installs and connects to mains, services, and components of the water distribution system.
Repairs broken mains and service connections and assists in surface restoration.
Operates various hand tools and power tools that are needed in making repairs to distribution system and other related components.
Oversees the field operation of the crew in the absence of the crew leader.
Completes daily reports and documents.
Installs and maintains trench protection systems and traffic control devices.
Installs and replaces hydrants.
Performs other duties of similar nature.

QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
High school diploma, GED Equivalent or equivalent amount of experience.

Experience:
6000 hours of experience in the operation of heavy construction equipment (rubber tire backhoe loader or track excavator) or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Licenses/Certifications:
Valid Iowa Class "A" Commercial Driver's (tractor-trailer with air brakes, & manual transmission)
License within 90 days of position start date.
