Job Summary:

Manage the Public Health Disease Surveillance System for Kalamazoo County and regularly analyze & report on the health status of residents, identifying corrective actions for adverse trends. Consult internally and externally on epidemiologic issues. Providing leadership and expertise for program evaluation, grant applications, and program, management and community decision-making. This is done to regularly monitor and report on the health of Kalamazoo County residents, respond to emergencies, prevent illness and promote health, thus reducing the financial burden of chronic infectious diseases in the community

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Kalamazoo County Health Surveillance System.
  • Management of the Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR) program and staff.
  • Epidemiological consultation with HCS programs regarding grant applications, needs assessments, program evaluation, presentations, publications & media.
  • Project manager for Geographical Information Systems (GIS) workgroup.
  • Manage the Outbreak Response Team for the Department.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness and response for the department and 5th District Medical Response Coalition.
  • Provide epidemiological expertise and consultation as a participant on community teams, workgroups, and task forces.

Qualifications:

Education:

Master's Degree in Epidemiology or Master's Degree in Public Health with an emphasis in Epidemiology or military equivalency.

Experience:

Three to five years of experience in local, state, or national epidemiology programs is required. Experience developing, implementing, and monitoring an active surveillance program is preferred. Public Health experience and program management experience are preferred. Knowledge of statistical tests and Public Health Systems is desired. Ability to analyze multi-factorial health issues, interpret data, build and utilize databases for data analysis, evaluate data collection methods, and direct disease investigation preferred. Excellent technical/computer, organizational, and oral and written communication skills are preferred.
