Job Summary

Responsible for real time optimization of the electric energy supply portfolio through monitoring and directing the Company's generation assets (output of steam, combustion turbines and nuclear plants.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assure optimal economic dispatch, buying and selling of energy in the hourly markets in PJM and surrounding regions, purchasing transmission services, scheduling energy associated with such hourly transactions, and gathering information and conducting analyses in support of trading activity.
  • Coordinate all such activity with PJM and ESOC.
  • Monitor and record all significant operating events for future reconciliation of energy interchange.
  • Execute short term/real time energy transactions to balance energy supply, and optimize portfolio margins and trade for profit consistent with strategies established by trading staff.
  • Gather information about the short term market through direct communication with other utilities, marketers and various internet based sources.
  • Monitor weather, load, energy availability, price behavior and other market factors in real time.
  • Communicate significant events/information to trading staff.

The successful candidate must be able to work 12 hour rotating shifts (6-6), and every other weekend. This is a 24/7 environment. This position is NOT eligible for relocation benefits.

This position is a three level growth series (Grade 25, 27, 28).

Job Specific Qualifications

Basic Requirement: (Associate Energy Supply Specialist - recent college hires only):
Bachelors' Degree or six years' professional experience
Basic Requirement: (Energy Supply Specialist):
Bachelors' Degree or six years' professional experience
Basic Requirements: (Senior Energy Supply Specialist):
Bachelors' Degree or six years professional experience
At least three years' experience in either electric power system operation or energy trading.

Job Specific Qualifications
Required Competencies:
Must have strong analytical and problem solving skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Obtain PJM Certification within 6 months of start of position
Must be able to establish credibility in dealings with counterparts, ISO personnel as well as effectively interact with all levels of the organization.
Must be decisive and possess confidence to make real time decisions with minimal supervision. These decisions will have direct impact to bottom line results.
