Eugene Springfield Fire is recruiting full-time limited duration and part-time temporary, licensed Emergency Medical Technicians to staff basic life support medic units. The limited duration positions are non-represented. The purpose of this recruitment is to create a list to fill positions for Eugene Springfield Fire. Applicants must successfully complete each step of the hiring process. If hired as a Firefighter/Paramedic with Eugene Springfield Fire in the future, you would be put in a lot draw and could be a City of Eugene or City of Springfield employee.
The Basic Life Support Technician (BLS Tech) is responsible for the pre-hospital care, packaging and transportation of sick and/or injured patients, primarily on code 1 scene calls within the Eugene/Springfield area. Work is performed within the scope of an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT).
This is a great opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and familiarity of the Eugene Springfield Fire (ESF) Department. You will also gain experience that will be beneficial should you have a desire to gain regular employment in Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and/or Fire services, including ESF.
Ideal candidates will possess the ability to deliver accurate, timely and professional customer service under stressful situations. Candidates must also possess the ability to use good judgement and prepare for medical response, handle stressful and traumatic incidents. The position must be prepared to instantly respond to emergency situations and communicate concisely & effectively with a diverse range of people and situations. Salary Range: $18.36-$20.63 hourly

- Safely drives and operates emergency apparatus in varying conditions and situations, to emergency situations and transports patients to hospitals.
- Performs medical assistance and transportation of sick or injured patients. Works within the chain of command and follows all orders, rules, policies, standard operation procedures (SOP's), medical protocols, safety practices, and detailed directions; makes rapid decisions as to appropriate action within scope of practice for an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)-Basic.
- Lifts or moves patients without causing additional injury.
- Assists with removing patients in close quarters, rough terrain, or under adverse environmental conditions, within scope of an EMT and department policy/procedure.
- Monitors radio and operates communication equipment.
- Obtains and records patients' vital signs and circumstances of the emergency.
- Participates in voluntary and mandatory on-roster staffing callbacks, voluntary off-roster staffing callbacks, and mandatory training.
- Supports and respects diversity in the workplace.
- Performs related duties as assigned or as the situation requires.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience and Training Guidelines:
High school diploma or equivalent.
License or Certificate:
Oregon State EMT License
Must possess a State of Oregon EMT Basic (or higher) license at the time of application or be currently enrolled & attending an EMT course.
To remain in the hiring process, the candidate must submit a valid Oregon EMT License number (Basic or higher) that can be validated on the Oregon Health Authority website by Monday, April 17, 2023.

Valid Oregon driver’s license, or ability to obtain by date of hire; must pass driving records check and, if hired, maintain a driving record that meets the City’s standard. Oregon law requires that an out-of-state license holder must obtain a valid Oregon license (with appropriate endorsements) within 30 days of becoming domiciled in the state (ORS 803.355).
Cardio Pulmonar y Resuscitation (CPR) Card
Possession of and ability to maintain an American Heart Association or equivalent Health Care Provider CPR card.

INTERVIEW PROCESS: February 27-March 3, 2023 *The interview process may include job-simulation and/or physical ability practical(s), along with an interview designed to elicit an applicant's relevant skills and abilities for the job.
OTHER SELECTION CRITERIA: March 7-April 11 , 2023* Candidates selected to move forward after the background check will then undergo and successfully pass a complete pre-employment physical examination prior to the establishment of the final eligibility list or final offer of employment. This examination will be conducted at department expense by the hiring City’s physician, with one component being a drug test. Marijuana use will be evaluated under current state law regulations.

Schedule Information:
Candidates successfully hired as BLS Techs participate in a comprehensive training academy. Candidates must be available to attend an academy for a period of two and a half weeks upon hire. The hire date for the next academy is May 8, 2023.
