Summary: Emergency Room Technician / CNA or LNA (PRN) Performs direct patient care activities within his/her scope of practice and under the direction of a Registered Nurse, Physician, Nurse Practitioner or Physician's Assistant in the Emergency Department. Participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities. This position may be asked to work at other NCCH-designated work location or sites as needed.
MUST have current, unrestricted CNA/LNA License for this position.
This position requires a commitment to teamwork, collaboration and department scheduling needs i.e. good attendance, attitude, customer services, communication skills, etc.,
Special Conditions: Subject to on call and call back after hours and weekends and during emergency conditions. Position is Safety Sensitive / Drug Free Workplace / COVID Vaccination Requirements.
REQUIRED LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS: Current, unrestricted C.N.A. or L.N.A. from the Arizona Board of Nursing Current BLS or CPR card prior to date of hire (American Heart Association).

Supervision Received: Works under the direct supervision of the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) or designated administrator.

Essential Functions (greater than or equal to 10% of time):

Provides direct patient care and assists patients as needed and directed by RN/Provider.
Obtains and accurately documents patient vital signs and weight, pain assessment, and intake and outputs (I&O’s)
Assists patients with transfers, ambulation, and turning
Empties tubes, canisters, urine bags, bed pans, and emesis basis
Transports patients safely using appropriate means
Assists with patient procedures under the direction and supervision of RN/Provider.
Dresses wounds using sterile techniques
Administers procedures such as fingersticks, EKG’s, enemas, etc., as directed
Performs orthopedic splinting and application of slings, collar, and other orthopedic wraps
Collects urine, stool, and sputum specimens
Assists nurse and ancillary departments with required paperwork, and performs general clerical duties when necessary.
Completes admission and requisition forms
Answers telephone and provides information or relays messages to patients and medical staff.
Orders and tracks supplies for the Emergency Room.
Reviews charts as directed by Nursing Administration

Cleans and maintains Emergency Room gurneys and equipment.

Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum one year of C.N.A. or L.N.A. work experience, or one year of Certified EMS (Emergency Medical Services) work experience required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Current, unrestricted C.N.A. or L.N.A. from the Arizona Board of Nursing;

Current BLS or CPR (American Heart Association) required on date of hire
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of C.N.A. or L.N.A. scope of practice and/or Certified EMT scope of practice.
  • Ability to be responsive to multiple patients and multiple demands; prioritize and re-prioritize tasks; follow directions; display calm and level-headed behavior in emergency situations.
  • Monitoring and reading of Basic Telemetry Patient.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills, as demonstrated through bedside manner
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • The ability to prioritize and make autonomous decisions.
  • Working knowledge of organizational policies and procedures in compliances with health care laws and regulations
  • Understanding of HIPAA compliance, Patient Rights, and
  • Ability to be flexible, adapt to changing situations in census or acuity, and have strong organizational skills.
  • Establish and maintain solid working relationships through communication, cooperation, and positive interactions with all patients/clients, employees, staff, providers, and vendors.
