ER/ICU Veterinary Technician

Our established training programs are in place to prepare technicians to advance into highly skilled positions in the ICU, emergency, and specialties depending on their interests. These positions require some evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Deliver exceptional, compassionate nursing care to patients utilizing a variety of technical skills, including diagnostic sample collection, catheter placement, venipuncture, radiography, emergency triage, and in-patient care for critical patients, including exemplary comfort care
- Be a crucial member of the healthcare team to ensure exceptional veterinary care for patients experiencing medical emergencies as well as those patients admitted to the hospital
- Advocate for patients, and clients, answer client’s questions and address their concerns; readily demonstrate empathy for clients in stressful and emotionally driven moments
- Assist with patient procedures and surgeries, including anesthetic induction and monitoring, pre and post operative patient care, surgical suite, instrument, and equipment care
- Obtain health history from clients and ensure documentation is accurate and complete within the electronic medical record
- Willingness to guide, mentor, and support fellow team members
- Constantly advance your knowledgebase and skill set
Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years’ professional experience in small animal clinical setting as a technician/assistant
- State license to practice as a veterinary technician preferred
- Superior technical knowledge and skills
- Proficient in medical math calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, conversions, etc.)
- Excellent communication skills with clients and team members
- Proficient time management, ability to problem solve, learn, and handle multiple tasks
- Enthusiastic team player with a patient, and positive professional attitude
- Must be able to lift and restrain pets of at least 40 pounds, and work on feet most of the day
- Must have the ability to adjust to changes in the environment and able to handle stress in a calm manner
- Must be able to anticipate patient needs and be detail oriented due to the high level of quality medicine

OSVS is located in East Greenwich, RI. OSVS is a 26,000 sf building with a very busy emergency service, a nationally-respected internship and residency program, and specialists in emergency/critical care, internal medicine, surgery, radiology, cardiology, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology, and avian/exotics. Specialized equipment includes telemetry, endoscopy, CT scanner, ultrasound, fluoroscopy and MRI. At OSVS, we presently have 4 board-certified surgeons as well as two surgical residents. Located in Southern New England, OSVS sees and treats pets from Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut.
