Job Description

Instructional staff at Battle Born Academy are charged with carrying out the culture, academics, and relationships that define our model. Teachers unleash their skills to support students as they lead their own learning. Essential teaching practices include relationships, engaging content, differentiation, proactive management, and restorative justice.

Job Responsibilities – What am I responsible for?

All Instructional Roles

  • Advisory course – a group of approximately 25-30 students they know and deeply care for. Advisors also contact families and have strong relationships with the students and those who care for them.
  • Pod PLC Collaboration – all teachers are part of a pod PLC (a group of teachers from two grades + a Special Education teacher + an EL teacher). This group meets several times a week for data analysis, planning, collaboration, and professional learning.
  • Contribute to the school systems and culture through additional duties, professional development, routines in their classrooms (such as attendance and grading), and other duties as necessary.
  • Report to Assistant Principal or Principal

Classroom Teachers

Collaborate with grade-level pods to plan daily differentiated instruction in both Math and ELA, as well as the core project block. Teachers are not expected to be content experts in either ELA or Math but are expected to collaborate with other teachers, leverage a provided curriculum, and use data to make informed decisions about best practices for their students. Classroom teachers collaborate with their grade-level team, including SpEd and EL instructors, to prepare and execute small group interventions to ensure the needs of all learners are being met.

  • Lead project block
  • Lead/co-lead Math block
  • Lead/co-lead ELA block

English Language and Special Education Teachers

Devise specific interventions, lead group teachings, and collect and analyze data on students’ progress. EL teachers also coordinate semi-annual testing for their grade level. Special Education teachers also manage a case load of individual students, conducting meetings, coordinating testing and accommodations, and preparing paperwork. Both EL and SpEd teachers help their grade-level team prepare and execute small group interventions to ensure the needs of all learners are being met.

  • Lead/co-lead Math block
  • Lead/co-lead ELA block
  • Differentiate instruction for students
  • Manage caseload

Specials/Electives Teachers

Design, prepare, and execute project-based electives courses. Specials teachers plan differentiated instruction for their subject and support all learners to engage in the content meaningfully.

  • Lead multiple sections of your elective course(s)
  • Differentiate instruction for students
  • We are open to different specials electives, but highly interested in physical education, dance, theater, music, computer science, or similar courses.

Job Outputs – How will my performance be measured?

  • Lead students to grade-level content mastery, as measured by project rubrics, mastery grading, and reading levels and/or lead students to 1.5 years of academic growth annually
  • Maintain relationships with 100% of the students and families in advisory

CompetenciesWhat skills and mindsets are necessary for the role?
