Basic Purpose and Function:
This skilled position is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of electrical systems on heavy equipment, craft and yard facilities while following blueprints and wiring diagrams.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Troubleshoots equipment malfunctions, determines the operating errors root causes, and fixes the errors.
- Repairs controllers, internal components, or systems using job-specific tools.
- Observes gauges, dials, or other indicators to ensure machines are functioning correctly.
- Visually discriminate color, specifically, match or detect differences between colors, including shades of color and brightness.
- Understands electrical machines and tools, including their use, repair, and maintenance.
- Understands various power applications and how to connect equipment safely.
- Understands the various voltages & amperages explicitly used in marine settings.
- Understands and works with both Alternating Current and Direct Current systems.
- Works at all height levels (high and low).
- Works in confined and enclosed spaces.
- Works non-standard work hours, as required.
- Ability to lift-up to 50 lbs.
Education and Experience:
- Applicants with three (3+) years of mechanical related electrical experience preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
- General knowledge of blueprints preferred.
- Knowledge of electrical machines and tools, including their use, repair, and maintenance.
- Candidates must be able to demonstrate equivalent relative experience.
Major Responsibility (Functions/Duties):
- Strips insulation from wires and solders ends to terminals using stripping pliers and soldering iron.
- Connects wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
- Tests electrical systems or continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
- Diagnoses malfunctioning systems or components using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
- Works from ladders, scaffolds, or Aerial Work Platform (AWP) to install, maintain, or repair wiring, equipment, or fixtures.
- Must be able to work in confined and enclosed spaces
- Repairs or replaces wiring, equipment, and fixtures using hand tools or power tools.
- Assembles, installs, tests, and maintains electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, or fixtures, using hand tools or power tools.
- Other duties may be assigned.
