Position overview

Cedar Lake Electric is looking for a detail orientated individual to work alongside current Project Managers/Estimators for an electrical contractor. This is an advanced position where duties will include: design build project engineering, project takeoff and cost estimating, project management, project coordination and scheduling, as well as internal and external customer relationship management.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Review request for quotations, drawings, and attends pre-bid meetings to determine scope of work and required contents of projects
  • Prepares estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work; prices work items
  • Reviews design options and recommends best solution based on cost, engineering quality or availability of materials
  • Helps to determine schedule, project duration and sequence of work
  • Investigates value engineering options
  • Reviews terms and conditions of subcontractor and vendor quotes; serves as a liaison with subcontractors and vendors during the bidding process
  • Maintains files of working documents, including current information on prices from suppliers
  • Request the assistance of others in the estimating department, as required, to ensure timely completion of estimates
  • Ability to start and manage projects without guidance from management.
  • Writes and makes necessary corrections to the scope of work
  • Create/Review/Execute Change orders and plan changes.
  • Prepares project budgets and works diligently to bring in all projects at or below budget
  • Writes material and subcontractor purchase orders
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Previous training or experience in the Electrical Field
  • Sound knowledge of current National Electrical Code
  • Computer competency to include estimating software and Microsoft Office programs
  • Excellent communication skills (both internally and externally), including both verbal and written
  • Must be self-motivated, detail orientated, able to multi-task, work independently and problem solve.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least two years’ experience in Electrical estimating and project management
  • CAD and/or Blue Beam experience
