Orbital is seeking an entry-level Electrical Engineer to provide technical support for electrical power and instrumentation projects in our Houston, TX office. The position requires demonstrated engineering and design competency, preferably in a consulting environment, and with heavy industrial engineering projects. The position requires significant field work, including obtaining data and conducting field evaluations of power systems in heavy industrial plants. The ideal candidate will also have CAD drafting experience using AutoCAD.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform technical analyses of electrical power systems including: short circuit, coordination, and load flow studies. Utilize electrical power analysis software to conduct studies.
  • Conduct field inspections and evaluations of electrical infrastructure in heavy industrial environments.
  • Assist with distribution line design (under 34kV) and pole replacements as part of an infrastructure improvement program.
  • Work with Senior Designers and Engineers to prepare new drawings, modify existing drawings, or create as-built documents.
  • Work under the direction of Senior Engineers to perform electrical power calculations, lighting calculations, and prepare equipment and installation specifications.
  • Support process control and instrumentation projects including development of system architecture, P&ID’s, panel design, instrumentation, PLC’s, etc.
  • Provide technical support for customers and support regional business development initiatives as a technical recourse under direction of senior engineer.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience with electric power and control systems.
  • Exposure to the Metals, Midstream Oil & Gas, Refineries & Petrochemical and/or Utilities & Power Generation industries.
  • Ability to perform field inspections at higher elevations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Working knowledge of SKM and/or ETAP analytical software or equivalent
  • Electrical power systems
  • Arc-flash study experience.
  • SKM and ETAP electrical power analysis software.
  • AutoCAD and/or Bentley MicroStation.
  • PLC/HMI experience is a plus.
