Dove Academy, founded in 1997, is a tuition-free public charter school located in Detroit, Michigan. The Academy is authorized by Oakland University, and currently serves over 400 K-8 children and their families. Its mission is to "provide a high-quality education so all students become successful members of an ever-changing global society." To achieve this goal, the school's curriculum places a strong emphasis on math and language skills. All other subjects such as science, social studies, art, and physical education are supported by a solid foundation of literacy and mathematics.

How you will make a difference daily:

Curriculum Delivery and Instruction

  • Plan with colleagues to use instructional materials and strategies that support student learning of identified standards
  • Use data to inform instructional decisions to analyze student results for the purpose of modifying and adjusting strategies and programming
  • Provide students with daily feedback on mastery performance in character and academics and plan for individual learning needs

Commitment to School and Classroom Culture

  • Work collaboratively with your school community
  • Help develop a school-wide culture that best fits the needs of our students, teachers and families
  • Attend and participate in all staff meetings and communicate openly with staff
  • Develop positive rapport with students
  • Create and foster a positive and calm learning environment
  • Enforce, uphold, and exhibit school's values, student management policies and culture

Engagement and Growth

  • Establish and maintain strong communication lines with all parents and peers and share progress
  • Be available for staff meetings, open houses, parent-teacher conferences and other events involving parents
  • Willing to offer support and receive constructive feedback from colleagues in order to create a professional working atmosphere that is conducive to change and improvement
  • Participate in school-wide and individual professional development, including pre-service training over the summer and weekly during the academic year (held during school hours)

QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE

  • Valid Michigan Teacher Certificate with appropriate endorsement or desire to enroll or have already enrolled in an alternative route to teacher certification.
  • Demonstrated competence in leadership, teamwork and empathy.
  • Computer literacy with excellent verbal and written expression.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Works well in a collaborative environment.
  • Passion and experience working in urban education desired.
