Interpreter English/Spanish
Non-Exempt
General Definition of Work
An employee in this class is responsible for assisting school personnel, Spanish speaking parents and
students to communicate more effectively. The employee is responsible for oral translations during
parent/teacher and parent/administrator conferences, during administration of tests to students, and
during emergency situations in which language is a barrier for resolving the situation. The employee is
responsible for written translations from English to Spanish and from Spanish to English for such purposes
as notification regarding school activities, student progress, disciplinary actions, school records, medical
records, notes from parents, etc. Limited supervision is provided.
Qualification Requirements
- Must be fully literate and fluent in both English and Spanish.
- Ability to speak, understand, read and write fluently in both English and Spanish.
- Requires a minimum of an Associate Degree or equivalent completion of an interpreter
- Computer skills and experience formatting documents with the use of Microsoft Word.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or
people or things.
- Requires the ability to speak in Spanish and English to convey or exchange information. Includes
- Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondence, etc., in English and Spanish. Requires the

- Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and

Reports to
Essential Functions
- Translates orally from English to Spanish and from Spanish to English during conferences,
etc.
- Translates written documents from English to Spanish and from Spanish to English.
- Assists Spanish-speaking students and their families with the school enrollment process.
- Provides feedback to teachers upon request.
- Serves as a liaison to promote positive and cooperative relationships within the school
Interpreter English/Spanish
- Travel to other school sites and departments to interpret for meetings and conferences.
- Performs related work as required.
Physical Requirements
• Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated office machines including computers,
