Job Description
Great Basin College is seeking a highly qualified individual for a full-time, tenure-track early childhood instructor position. The position begins on August 1, 2022. Instructional responsibilities will include live and interactive video (IAV) instruction to originate from the Elko campus. Courses will also be taught in an online format through GBC’s Learning Management System (Canvas) platform. The teaching load for this position is 15 credits per academic semester, with the potential for additional teaching opportunities during summer and/or winter breaks. The position strongly emphasizes teaching rather than research. This individual will be responsible for teaching a range of classes in Early Childhood Education. Online course development is also required. This position will provide support for the Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Early Childhood Education through student advising and field-based supervision of student interns. In addition to duties related directly to students, the instructor in this position will collaborate with licensed early childhood programs and other statewide programs to assist with recruitment and retention initiatives. This position may require some occasional travel throughout the state. This position is based at the Elko campus and reports to the Dean, Arts and Sciences.
Qualifications:

A minimum of a master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in Early Childhood Education, Human Development & Family Studies, ECE Special Education, and/or a related field of study focused on working with children, birth through eight years of age.

At least four years of classroom teaching experience in an early childhood licensed home care, group care, and/or center. This experience should include three or more years teaching diverse children with a focus on behavioral interventions and special education in a licensed Early Childhood program.

A minimum of three semesters of experience teaching online courses at an accredited college.

Experience in developing three or more Early Childhood Education (ECE) and/or Human Development & Family Studies (HDFS) online courses.

Experience with, and understanding of incorporating the NAEYC Program Standards and NV Preschool Content Standards in all facets of instruction.

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with licensed ECE programs and community agencies in order to coordinate and deliver the AAS in ECE, AAS in ECE with an Infant/Toddler Emphasis, AA in ECE, and BA in ECE throughout the GBC service area and nation-wide.

Evidence of the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

An equity-based educational philosophy that places the primary emphasis on student-centered learning in the design, delivery, and evaluation of courses.

Ability to travel throughout the GBC service area as needed, with or without accommodations under the provisions of ADA.
Preference will also be given to candidates who have:

Experience delivering in-service and professional development to early childhood professionals, and/or coaching student teachers in the classroom.

Experience teaching undergraduate courses using distance education methods, including interactive video and particularly the Canvas platform.

Experience using a wide variety of pedagogical methods in order to deliver interactive and hands-on online instruction.
Responsibilities:
The successful applicant will be primarily responsible to develop and teach undergraduate courses in a range of topics each semester as needed and required by the Teacher Education Department.
Further responsibilities include:

Coordinate and supervise student interns and field experiences for AAS and BA students.

Work as a department member with a genuine spirit of cooperation and flexibility in a higher education setting.

Advise and recruit students.

Perform all duties as required of all GBC faculty members (workload, committee work, office hours, etc.).

Handle administrative duties related to teaching and program growth.
-
Assist ECE Website enhancements.
-
Teach a combination of day, evening, interactive video, and online classes as needed.

Travel throughout the GBC service area as needed, with or without accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Other duties as assigned.
Salary and Benefits:
Annual salary range is $46,000 - $76,000 commensurate with experience and education.
Nevada System of Higher Education benefits package includes a 401(a) defined contribution retirement plan with employees contributing 15.50 % and a matching 15.50% from the employer, medical/dental/vision plan, benefit time, 11 paid holidays, and tuition waiver at Nevada System of Higher Education colleges for the employee and family. There is no state income tax in Nevada.
