Job description

Dispatch / Driver Manager will be part of a growing team that is focused on driving the long-term growth of our business. You will work closely with fellow team members and interface directly with customers and drivers to ensure timely delivery according to contract requirements.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Dispatch tractors and trailers to meet assigned route schedules.
  • Coordinate equipment maintenance issues with maintenance personnel.
  • Track routes.
  • Coordinate with other dispatchers in assisting drivers.
  • Effectively communicate instructions to drivers and dispatchers.
  • Ensure DOT compliance is maintained throughout the course of the route.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure that the department is fully staffed and is working at capacity.
  • Provide coverage for vacations, sick time, and LOA when necessary.
  • Assess the performance of the staff and provides timely feedback both formally through the performance management system and informally through coaching and mentoring.
  • Ensure that the team is properly trained and working efficiently.
  • Confirm that the team processes the shipments as outlined in the SOP’s and corporate policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that the team follows the Operational Data Quality Policy.
  • Monitor the performance of the members of each center under your supervision to ensure compliance. to policies, procedures, service standards, and increased business growth.
  • Develop succession planning and training to create a sustainable department.
  • Motivate and support co-workers, integrates, and promote the Corporate Values into daily actions and interactions (Integrity, Innovation, Teamwork, Dedication, and Respect).
  • Lead and communicates goals, team objectives and priorities.
  • Develop and produce a highly motivated team.
  • Responsible for team member selection, hiring, and training; reviews and retention of team members.
  • Apply expertise to improve effectiveness and provide guidance to staff and associates.
  • Encourage subordinates to strive for operational excellence by continually challenging old methods or ways of thinking and taking responsible risks to maximize results; serves as a role model in innovative thinking and in focusing on quality within work.
  • Formulate, monitor, and achieve objectives.
  • Executes monthly targets and controls as defined by leadership.
  • Manage costs within their location and looks for efficiencies and improvements.
  • Manage assets in line with targets, forecasts, and strategy requirements.
  • Identify opportunities and risks within the business that may impact the business environment and ability to deliver to shareholder commitments.
  • Ensure compliance with internal and external controls and KPI’s
  • Acquire and apply professional/technical knowledge, skills, experience, and judgment to accomplish results that contribute to the strategic business plans.
  • Continuously looks for ways to improve operational processes, defines the structure, and increases productivity.
  • Review and analyze daily, weekly, and monthly reports for accuracy, trends, and areas needing development.
  • Support the sales team in calls where operational expertise is required.
  • Educate yourself and others regarding product offerings consistently.
  • Assist the Director of Operations with an operational budget.
  • Analyze and report on performance of the business unit to ensure that budget performance measures are met/exceeded.

OTHER DUTIES

  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Experience within the transportation industry
  • Fluent using Microsoft Office products and database management
  • A balance between verbal and analytical thinking skills
