District Works Maintenance Technician
Peninsula Engineering seeks an experienced District Works Maintenance Technician to provide general public works support for the town of Ave Maria, Florida. This position reports District Works Operations Supervisor and provides semi-skilled manual labor, constructing, maintaining and repairing roadways, drainage systems and associated assets.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assists in maintenance of concrete, asphalt, drainage facilities, signage, markings, and vegetation within public right-of-ways.
- Assists in routine repair of asphalt roads, sidewalks, and trails including pothole repair and road patching.
- Assists in demolition, forming, and placing of concrete necessary for maintenance of sidewalks, curbs, inlets, etc. associated with public right of ways.
- Assists in cleaning and maintenance of drainage facilities including pipes, structures, underground drains, inlets, and basins.
- Performs routine maintenance of public grounds including trimming, grading, sod removal and installation, irrigation system repair, litter collection, and roadkill removal.
- Monitors the operations and maintenance of District streets, lighting systems, signage and storm water systems.
- Sets up barricades and other temporary traffic control devices in accordance with standards and provides flagging services for work crews working within flowing traffic.
- Services, performs maintenance on, and washes District vehicles and equipment.
- Uses and maintains power hand tools such as drills, saws, chainsaws, etc. as needed to complete assigned tasks.
- Assists and supports special events and programs by closing streets, erecting tents, setting up tables and chairs, etc.
- Assists in the maintenance of water features/fountains, including vacuuming/netting debris, maintaining filters and skimmers and maintaining proper water chemistry.
- Recommends operational decisions that affect employee and citizen safety for assigned areas.
- Coordinates and works in conjunction with contractors and vendors involved in the operations and maintenance of town's landscaping, stormwater collection systems, lakes, street infrastructure, etc.
- Uses Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) work order system (i.e., Cartegraph OMS) to track all maintenance and improvement tasks, activities, projects and cost.
- Takes proper safety precautions, anticipates unsafe circumstances, conducts safety inspections and acts accordingly to prevent incidents; reports all accidents and damage to District property.
- Performs other related duties as required.
SKILLS:
- Knowledge of methods and techniques of asphalt repair and maintenance of streets, sidewalks and paths.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and standards for safe working practices
- Knowledge of the operation and minor maintenance of various vehicles and equipment used in grounds maintenance work or pothole maintenance.
- Principles and practice of construction, maintenance, and repair of typical public works infrastructure.
- Materials, methods, terminology, equipment, and tools used in the maintenance and repair of stormwater management facilities, streets, sidewalks, signage, etc.
- Knowledge of work order (CMMS) software applications
- Knowledge of computers and software applications
- Ability to read and understand operations and maintenance manuals; construction drawings; and plans and specifications.
OTHER:
- Valid Driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record
- Emergency response occasionally necessitates after hours work
- Basic electrical experience a plus
- Basic pool chemistry a plus
TYPICAL CONDITIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
- Work is performed outdoors.
- May be exposed to traffic and construction hazards, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, air contaminates, adverse weather conditions, temperature and noise extremes, wet weather, humidity, heights, confined spaces, fumes, dusts, odors, toxic chemicals and vibration.
- Must possess mobility to conduct walking inspections over uneven terrain, climb ladders, stairs or other temporary access points.
- Must possess the ability to lift, carry, push and pull materials and objects weighing 50 pounds
EDUCATION:
Education /Training: High school graduation or equivalent. Relatable experience to public works, grounds maintenance, asphalt or concrete experience is required.
