- Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus eight (8) years of experience in a field related to the job, including two (2) years of experience which were in a supervisory or managerial capacity.

Under minimal supervision, this position manages and directs Restoration and Troubleshooting Operations staff, assignments, maintenance activities and switching. The Superintendent also responds to system disturbances, incident command activations, and mutual aid deployments impacting Austin Energy’s and/or requesting utilities infrastructure. This position is responsible for ensuring reporting staff have the appropriate training, resources, and equipment to safely install, maintain, and restore medium and low voltage electrical systems (15kv — 120v).

Work Schedule:
- This position is categorized as Essential Personnel with the City of Austin. Essential staff are required to work during emergencies or bad weather if they are scheduled to work and, in some cases, when they are not scheduled. Essential employees ensure the continuance of key operations for the City of Austin.
- Work hours may include after hours, holidays, and weekends
- Shifts may change according to departmental needs.
- Employee may be required to work additional hours outside of regular work schedule.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in electric utility distribution construction, maintenance, and restoration.
- Experience supervising or managing electrical distribution organizations with 8+ field staff.
- Experience utilizing quality management systems such as ISO-9001 or similar systems to create process documentation for identified operational risks, nonconformities, and/or opportunities for improvement (OFI).
- Experience leading safety initiatives and programs in an electric utility distribution environments.
- Experience assisting in fiscal planning and budget preparation.
- Ability to travel to more than one work location.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

- Manages schedules, budget, and project performance for large construction projects.
- Re-conducts existing lines for reliability or new load requirements.
- Relocates facilities for road-widening projects.
- Installs tie lines and new circuits for load growth/reliability.
- Conducts three-phase conversions.
- Residential/commercial single phase and three-phase projects.
- Restores system due to weather, equipment malfunction, or damage.
- Ensures that all plans and work are consistent with appropriate codes and regulations.

- Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling, and recommendation for dismissal.
