ROGERS STATE UNIVERSITY

Position Summary:

Through the Office of Student Development, this position provides support for students with disabilities and assures compliance with federal civil rights laws. Throughout the year, this position will determine eligibility for disability-related accommodations, coordinate services, and advocate for campus accessibility. This position will require maintaining records, directly working with students, and offering educational and awareness activities. This position requires knowledge of University, state, and federal laws and policies related to disability and educational access. In addition, this position supports the Office of Student Affairs and its affiliated departments in promoting civic engagement, student leadership, and program assessment/evaluation. The position will plan, promote, and develop student-facing programs that develop informed, citizen student-leaders, and will support division-wide assessment practices.

HOURS: M-F, 8a-5p

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Demonstrate strong ethical principles and practice integrity;
  • Demonstrate presentation skills with effective communication;
  • Facilitation for collaborative efforts with persons from various abilities, backgrounds, ethnicities, and personal preferences;
  • Knowledge of personal computers, software packages, and office equipment;
  • Proficient in MS Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with students, staff, faculty, and other constituents;

  • Understanding of student affairs and student development history, theory, and philosophy;
  • Understanding of educational assessment, evaluation, and research methodologies; Preferred Qualification.

REQUIRED DEGREE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field;
  • Experience in education working with diverse student populations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in higher education/student affairs, student development, counseling/social work, or closely related area;
  • One or more years of experience in higher education, student affairs, or related area, particularly disability services and/or student leadership.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

DIRECT SUPPORT TO STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES: (50%):

  • Determines if student is eligible under the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendment Act (ADAAA);
  • Clarifies students' request for services and reviews documentation related to disability and functional limitations;
  • Identifies and approves reasonable accommodations for eligible students based on the individual;
  • Coordinate test proctoring services and tutoring for students upon request; - Acquires alternative textbooks and other learning materials for students throughout the academic year;
  • Arranges for and provides direct disability services; coordinates with faculty and staff to ensure equal access to educational programs and services;
  • Monitors the effectiveness of student accommodations in the educational process, including assistive technology;
  • Monitors the academic progress of students with disabilities and provides coaching as needed;
  • Manages the administrative process for the department, which includes maintenance of department electronic files, student records, statistics and data disability documentation in a confidential manner;
  • Review documentation and requests for emotional support animals and, in collaboration with Residential Life, coordinate policies regarding service animals and emotional support animals on campus;
  • Develops plans to support access to courses, programs, facilities, services, and activities on campus;
  • Oversees and maintains all student disability documentation;

ADMINISTRATION AND OUTREACH FOR DISABILITY/ACCESSIBILITY SERVICES: (15%)

  • Coordinates communication between faculty, staff, and prospective and enrolled students with disabilities and provides ongoing consultation, training, and technical assistance to faculty and staff to facilitate equal learning opportunities;
  • Ensure institutional compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, Americans with Disabilities Act Amendment Act (ADAAA), Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Fair Housing Act along with relevant state laws;
  • Creates and maintains database format to effectively capture student data to accurately report information to external sources such as the Board of Regents, State of Oklahoma, and internally to the Director of Student Development, VP of Student Affairs, the President, and other institutional reporting agencies;
  • Identifies partners within the University and external community to collaborate and create new programs;
  • Creates programming to raise awareness on campus of issues related to students with disabilities;
  • Represent Disability and Accessibility Resources and the Office of Student Affairs on division, university, and state-wide committees;
  • Assists the Director of Student Development by receiving, processing, managing, and reporting various student grievances that are received; - Other duties as assigned.

CIVIC ENGAGEMENT & LEADERSHIP PROGRAM MANAGEMENT: (20%)

  • Develop, promote,and implement civic engagement/leadership development workshops, clinics, panels, coffee chats, and guest lectures, integrating alumni and community partners into offerings;
  • Advise and assist faculty in integrating leadership curriculum into coursework;
  • Organize and promote student voter registration initiatives;
  • Manage and support the RSU Leader Central Blackboard community and Graduation with Leadership Distinction program;
  • Participate in recruitment, selection, and formal leadership training of student leaders;
  • Collaborate with campus and community partners on major programming and events connected to service and leadership, including RSU Career Services;
  • Advocate and assist in the integration of civic engagement learning into University Experience (UNIV 1152) courses;
  • Other duties as assigned.

STUDENT AFFAIRS ASSESSMENT: (15%)

  • Participate in creating assessment tools and evaluates Office of Student Affairs program initiatives for student engagement, learning, needs, satisfaction, and learning outcomes;
  • Complete regular reports, annual reports, and other impromptu reports as needed;
  • Conduct one-on-one interviews, focus groups, and large-scale evaluation with students and/or faculty and staff;
  • Ensure completeness, accuracy and timeliness of all assessment and evaluation functions;
  • Other duties as assigned.
