Job description
POSITION: Director/Teacher of BPSCDC Daycare Program
- The director/teacher will spend fifty percent of his/her time on managing the day to day operations of the center and fifty percent teaching in the program.
JOB GOAL: To ensure the safety and well-being of each child by responding to their emotional, social, and physical needs as well as their educational needs, by utilizing developmentally appropriate practice and best practice methods at all times.
REPORTS TO: BPS Before/After School Coordinator
QUALIFICATIONS:
- EEC Director I or CDA equivalent;
- Associates or Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education;
- Lead teacher experience (either infant/toddler or preschool level);
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in written form, with professional colleagues and parents.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Director responsibilities will include, but not are not limited to the following:
- Meet with incoming parents to enroll new children;
- Consistently communicate with parents regarding their children and the center’s policies;
- Manage and support teaching staff and promote their professional development;
- Ensure a safe, happy, and stimulating environment for children;
- Manage and coordinate curricula with staff;
- Ensure that center facilities are safe for children;
- Recommend materials, equipment, and supplies for the program;
- Complete ongoing training and courses to remain up to date on daycare standards and procedures;
- Work cooperatively with BHS early education and care educators and students.
Teacher responsibilities will include but not are not limited to the following:
- Assist children with activities of daily life (restroom use, diapering, hand washing);
- Appropriately supervise children while keeping them safe at all times;
- Engage children in activities and play that stimulates their development;
- Approach parents daily and speak with them about their child(ren);
- Creating and maintaining an environment that is clean, organized, and safe for all children;
- Establish a professional level of rapport with each family in order to provide quality care and friendly service;
- Supervise teacher aides in the classroom and ensure they are following program policy and customer service expectations;
- Plan daily activities that are developmentally appropriate for young children;
- Maintain communication regarding the daily activities of each child pertaining to eating, sleeping, and diaper changing using a daily sheet;
- Maintain a professional self-image and project the values of the organization at all times;
- Work cooperatively with BHS early education and care educators and students.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Able to lift children up to 50 pounds from the floor to waist high;
- Crouch to a child’s height and maintain eye contact at a child’s level;
- Stand or sit for long periods of time; to walk up and down stairs.
- Must be able to sit on the floor or in child sized furniture.
- Must be able to proactively take precautions to ensure the health and safety of all children, parents, staff and themselves when coming in contact with children who are ill and/or contagious.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a non-affiliated position; 40 hours per week.
185 School Days, 3 day before, 1 day after, 14 paid holidays, paid school recess days per calendar. No Vacation.
