The position leads the SSEAt for transforming data into actionable insights to inform decision-making, shift and/or allocate resources, provide ‘just in-time’ student support, positively impact campus climate, design student success programs, and improve enrollment strategies. This position will be an important partner in making progress in all three areas of quality, access, and affordability, simultaneously. The team will also contribute to a growing effort across the university to use data-informed practices to guide student success and enrollment practices. Examples of this growing effort include ReEngineering Madison, the QEP, R2 Carnegie classification, campus climate survey, and other campus initiatives.
In addition to serving on the SASEM leadership team, the Director works closely with the Offices of Institutional Research, Registrar, Information Technology, Libraries, Student Affairs, Center for Faculty Innovation, Center for Assessment & Research Studies, Academic Affairs, Admissions, Financial Aid and other departments.

General Information
Reporting to the Vice Provost for Student Academic Success and Enrollment Management (SASEM), the Director of the Student Success & Enrollment Analytics team (SSEAt) provides leadership on equitable student success and retention and is the key implementation leader for the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP). Through collaboration across Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and other divisions of the university, the Director is responsible for the implementation, assessment, and improvement of the early student success system and university’s QEP.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the SSEAt to partner with campus colleagues on transforming data into actionable insights for student success & enrollment management
- Advocate for data privacy, ethics, and equity as central to any design, management, and use of data decisions for the SSEAt, including in collaboration with colleagues across the campus community
- Implement, assess, and continuously improve the early student success system
- Accountable for Quality Enhancement Plan budgeting, tracking, assessment, and reporting related to re-accreditation
- Co-chair the university wide Retention & Student Success committee
- Supervise the SSEAt of administrative faculty and staff
- Collaborate with partners on-campus for student success research, assessment, and programming
- Participate in and help lead change management for ReEngineering Madison, especially around the implementation and use of the Customer Relationship Management suite
- Manage budget for SSEAt and research, submit, and partner on external funding and grants
- Collaborate with internal and external partners on data management, collection, management, and use (For example – non-cognitive surveys, CRM, Orientation, Advising)
- Communicate insights from data analysis through visualizations, presentations, written reports, publications, and other multi-media
- Collaborate on training and on-boarding with specific technologies, platforms, and competencies for data, student success, and equity
- Analyze data to generate actionable insights that can empower campus partners to act on data
- Represent JMU in regional, national, and international conversations about student success & retention, equity, and data analytics
- Serve on JMU committees, task forces, searches, and other groups relevant to student success, equity, and data analytics
- Administer faculty, staff, and student research fellowships
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in related fields and equivalent professional experiences
- Supervisory and/or project management experience
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent organizational and management skills
- Familiarity with data systems
- Familiarity of university academic, curricular, and legal policies that pertain to the functions of student success
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Experience with data analysis and visualization tools
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD or terminal degree in related field
- Customer relationship management (CRM), and enterprise applications
- Specific experience with visualization tools such as SPSS, SAS, R, SQL PowerBI and/or Tableau
- Familiarity with data maturation models
