ABOUT THE FLOCK
bluebird bio's external affairs team is building confidence and conviction in bluebird and our ability to deliver on our mission to bring patients and their families more bluebird days. This committed, focused, and fun flock is looking for our newest team member to develop and execute on a patient advocacy strategy that supports the beta-thalassemia and ALD communities, and who can represent bluebird across a range of rare disease organizations. HOW YOU'LL FLY
You'll help to bring more patients their bluebird days by:
- Working with the Chief Communications Officer; Director, Patient Advocacy, Sickle Cell Disease; and other cross-functional partners, build a comprehensive patient advocacy strategy that addresses the needs of the beta-thalassemia and ALD communities, and enables effective and efficient engagement with the broader ecosystem of rare disease organizations.
- Leading external advocacy group relationships and ensuring a sense of community and collaboration among thalassemia and ALD organizations with bluebird.
- Fostering strong partnerships with medical affairs, commercial, market access, patient services, legal, regulatory, and other functions to ensure aligned objectives and a strategically consistent approach to advocacy engagement.
- Keeping it real - continuously bringing the voice of the patient community back to bluebird; ensuring community representation and perspective throughout our work, including timely and actional insights from the patient community to inform the work of cross-functional teams.
- Supporting and advancing advocacy initiatives, including gene therapy education and capacity building efforts.
- Assessing the patient advocacy landscape, identifying opportunities to strengthen existing or develop new relationships and alliances.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
You're the bird we're looking for if you have:
- Have a bachelor's degree and a minimum of seven years' experience in patient advocacy and/or patient engagement, preferably within the biotech, pharmaceutical or healthcare industry. Advanced degree in science, public affairs, communications, or other relevant field and rare disease experience a plus.
- Highly skilled at building relationships – from internal stakeholders to external community leaders and an established track record as a champion for patients and families.
- An established understanding of the relevant patient advocacy landscape, industry rules and regulations.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment, to incorporate multiple points of view, and to communicate with inspiration.
- Self-starter with an ability to embrace change and multi-task in an extremely fast-paced environment, constantly adjusting and accounting for the external environment.
- Demonstrated ability to independently drive projects to completion and an outcomes-oriented mindset; personal commitment to high performance and continuous improvement.
- Role could include travel up to 30% of the time.
