Job Title: Director of Special Education
Location: Nampa, ID
Salary: $70,000-$75,000/year
2023-2024 School Year Work Contract: 185 Days

Position Summary
The Director of Special Education will review, understand, and implement special education requirements in accordance with federal mandates, Idaho Department of Education regulations, as well as manage associated budgets. The Director of Special Education will plan, develop, and deliver quality professional development for principals, consultants, and instructional staff. The Director will also assist with establishing a District culture that promotes learning, good conduct, and positive attitudes and values in a safe working and learning environment within the requirements of federal and state law, administrative rules, and Board policy.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current Idaho Standard Instructional Certificate with Exceptional Child endorsement
  • Three or more years of teaching/administrative experience in one or more fields of Special Education
  • Demonstrated knowledge and training in implementing Response to Intervention (RTI)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of assessment, evaluation and eligibility determination for students with disabilities
  • Ability to supervise IEP or 504 plan mandated accommodations for students with special needs
  • Ability to plan, implement and evaluate staff in-service activities
  • Successful experience supervising/coordinating special education services
  • Ability to provide technical assistance to schools, staff, and parents
  • Knowledge of special education federal mandates, Idaho Department of Education regulations, and Board policy
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, managers, employees, clients, customers, and/or the general public
  • Consistently demonstrate ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs, such as prioritizing work as necessary; organize job functions and work area to be able to effectively complete varied assignments within established time frame
  • Positive, kind, creative, communicative, selfless, humble, and wants to be part of making the lives of children, while at school, extraordinarily fantastic!
  • Valid Idaho identification
  • Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Major responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervise and administer district programs for students with disabilities in accordance with federal mandates, Idaho Department of Education regulations, and Board policy
  • Serve as a member of the child study team, and assume responsibility for the preparation and timely submission of all required documents and reports, in order to assure District compliance with the legal requirements of this process
  • Establish procedures for the evaluation, placement, and reappraisal of students in need of special education and/or related services
  • Provide observation and evaluation through classroom visits, formal observation, supervision, evaluation, and contact with building principals
  • Coordinate contracted services such as physical therapy and occupational therapy
  • Schedule and assign psychologists, communication disorders specialists, gifted/talented facilitators, social workers, and other ancillary personnel assigned to special services
  • Meet with parents to discuss the implementation of IEPs and to resolve grievances
  • Provide on-going, regularly scheduled supervision to special and regular education personnel in the District
  • Prepare periodic reports for presentation to district administrators, IACS School Board, and other community groups as appropriate
  • Assume responsibility for continuing professional growth and development by such efforts as attendance at professional meetings, membership in professional organizations, enrollment in advanced courses, and by reading professional journals and other publications
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by Administration

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
