American Commercial Barge Line (ACBL) is looking for a Director of Reliability who is responsible for the implementation and management of the daily activities of our vessels and barge operations to join our Gulf Operations team!

What you will be doing... Your IMPACT

  • Oversee all functions of the day-to-day operations, strategy, objectives, technical aspects of the vessel engineering group for the operations and fleets
  • Develop the department’s annual business plan; monitors performance and develops appropriate actions to improve efficiency, equipment availability and optimize utilization.
  • Manage, develop, and direct the vessel engineers to include but not limited to job assignments, boat assignments, troubleshoot problems and special projects.
  • Initiate maintenance standards, preventative maintenance programs, and test procedures to minimize downtime and continually improve vessel performance
  • Manage venders and direct the group to plan, schedule, and complete all repairs (including overhauls).
  • Create and provide information for budgets and monthly reports
  • Partner cross departmentally with Logistics and operations to improve the performance and effectively coordinate repairs to minimize disruption to the boat plan
  • Research and develop solutions to common vessel problems
  • Ensure the vessels meet or exceed all USCG, Sub-M, and other regulatory requirements

What we are looking for...

You will need to have:

  • 10+ years of experience in Vessel Maintenance/Engineering, or a related field
  • Knowledge of U. S. Coast Guard regulations; handling of toxic and flammable liquids; OPA 90
  • Knowledgeable of barge & engine repairs & related parts/equipment. Extensive mechanical know-how
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Excellent leadership/management skills
  • Ability to travel to other ABCL locations
  • Detail oriented with the ability to prioritize and delegate.
  • Ability to make sound decisions under time pressure deadlines
  • Knowledge of personal computer operations (Microsoft) and general office machines

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • B.S. degree in Business Administration or Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in transportation, logistics or manufacturing
  • Previous experience in management of fleet maintenance or in management of barge design and construction
  • Continuous improvement or lean background
