Director of Operations, West Coast
Job description
The position is responsible for West Coast operational oversight and assistance to the field operations by developing, implementing and monitoring resources and programs based on contractual and client requirements and agreed-upon Collective-Bargaining Agreements. Works directly with the President of Terminal Security Solutions, Inc. to assist with account oversight, audits, assessments and training program development. In addition, they will have primary responsibility for establishing positive client relations to maximize retention. Moreover, will act as a liaison for regional and local accounts to ensure all operational, financial and administrative functions for assigned accounts are performing at the highest level possible. Individual’s performance will be evaluated based on, but not limited to, providing quality customer service and assisting in achieving the financial goals and objectives of Nautilus International Holding Corporation (NIHC) and Terminal Security Solutions, Inc (TSS). The Director of Operations is more specifically responsible for the following:
- Plans, directs, and coordinates all operational account resources, to include team members, facilities and equipment.
- Plans, directs, and coordinates all safeguard accounts assigned under their area of operation.
- Establish, execute and ensure compliance with all policies, procedures and regulations in accordance with all NIHC, TSS, Facility Security Plans (FSP), MTSA and Federal, State and local municipality guidelines.
- Assist in the development of in-depth initial and on-going training programs.
- Develops positive relationship with TSS account managers, supervisors and clients.
- Selects, trains, motivates, and evaluates assigned staff, to include providing and coordinating staff training
- Identify employees with deficiencies, implementing remedial training and progressive discipline, when appropriate.
- Collaborates with field leadership to identify client-specific Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to measure TSS’s performance of these factors.
- Maintains a working knowledge of the NIHC and TSS operating programs to include, but not limited to Paylocity, Novatime and EHS Insight, etc.
- Assists and supports the President of TSS and executive team in carrying out special projects and industry-related objectives, as directed.
- Actively participates in sales opportunities, and new business transition planning, implementation and delivery, when called upon.
- Ensures exceptional customer service delivery of account security services, as it relates to client retention.
- Actively participates in specific professional organizations, when deemed appropriate by the President of TSS.
- Works with all levels of NIHC & TSS organization to identify, analyze and solve problems to create a harmonious and safe work environment.
- Plans, organizes and manages the work of subordinate team members to ensure all applicable mission requirements are accomplished.
- Directs or conducts investigations to verify and resolve customer, federal or state authorities, and employee complaints.
- Continually develops application instruction and procedural manuals to facilitate compliance with Homeland Security guidelines and client requirements.
- Coordinates operational meetings to ensure the timely flow of information between all Managers, Supervisors and employees.
- Conducts arbitration with employees, clients and union leadership to resolve disputes and complaints.
- Maintain confidentiality of all information and data; to include Sensitive Security Information (SSI) materials.
- Write and maintain reports of daily activities and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, breach of security or unusual occurrences.
- Inspect work areas to identify safety issues, provide solutions and report issues to the appropriate safety department in a timely manner.
- Ensure compliance of established regulations, regarding to but not limited to safety and maintenance, and employee permits and licenses.
- Responsible for compliance with internal and external health, safety and environmental policies & procedures, audits, inspections and training.
- Responsible for developing budgets for portfolio of operations, and will be accountable for delivering financial Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Able to conduct in-depth audits and analysis of operational and financial controls relating to the account management.
- Observe and evaluate worker’s performance to ensure upward mobility and proper utilization of employee skills.
- Keep records and prepare accurate and timely reports both manually and through automated methods.
- Maintain staff levels in accordance with client needs and operational requirements.
- Ensure schedules are accurate, balanced and fair.
- Act as a liaison and coordinates meetings with local authorities, to include but limited to Customs and Border Patrol (CBP), U.S. States Coast Guard (USCG), and local Law Enforcement, when needed.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned or required.
The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in Business Admin; Criminal Justice; Marine Operations or related field or affiliated field plus at least five years of Maritime Environment in management role, 33 CFR 105 (MTSA) Regulations and/or general management experience in a service industry. Contract or proprietary security service experience is preferred. In addition, we seek the following:
- Bachelor's Degree in business Admin; Criminal Justice; Marine Operations or related field is preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of contract security or management services, safety, and emergency operations.
- Excellent communication & organizational skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint. In addition, he/she must be computer literate and have the ability to understand and fully use associated hardware and software.
- Able to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
- Able to help identify and solve problems.
- Able to create highly successful client and customer relations and effectively manage escalations at the lowest level.
- Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors and customers.

- Able to work a flexible schedule and to work evenings, weekends and holidays as requested or required.
- Position may require travel 20% of the time, and possibly include extended overnight stays.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Able to work under in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- Possess a current Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) or have the ability to obtain one.
- Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA) and Security Screener certification training will be provided by the company based on each physical company location.
Physical Requirements:
- Must have the ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
- Must be able to stand a minimum of 6 hours at a time.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
- Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on a telephone or VHF.
