Job Title: Senior External Reporting Director

Location: Menlo Park, CA

Job Type: Full time

Position Summary

The External Reporting Director will be responsible for preparing all financial statement filings, evaluating new accounting pronouncements for accounting impact, and assisting with the monthly close for technical areas. This position will work cross-functionally with many departments within the company and its subsidiaries as well as with several service providers. This position will report to CFO.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

· Compile financial statements (consolidated balance sheet, consolidated income statement, statement of cash flows, statement of stockholders’ equity, footnotes) and other SEC disclosures

· Prepare tie-out support for all filings and disclosure checklists

· Ensure financial statements are prepared in accordance with US GAAP and stock exchange regulations (i.e. SEC), including newly issued accounting pronouncements

· Interpret newly issued accounting pronouncements, manage the company’s timely implementation of relevant pronouncements, and educate finance leadership accordingly

· Identify complex transactions requiring technical analysis, perform research, and prepare the related technical memos and journal entries

· Assist in reviewing revenue recognition treatment (ASC 606), and support other complex accounting related to share-based compensation (ASC 718), and lease accounting (ASC 842) as needed

· Support on the timely monthly and quarterly close process including reconciliations for technical accounting topics

· Develop and maintain company-wide accounting policies

· Support Company’s global accounting processes by delivering high-quality accounting deliverables, including management reports, reconciliations, and manual/system controls

· Maintain the effective operation of technical accounting and financial reporting controls

· Prepare support for compliance efforts by internal and external audit teams

· Function as a business partner by working collaboratively with key business stakeholders throughout the company to support accounting initiatives

· Take a leadership role in continuous improvement by identifying and implementing opportunities related to business processes, reporting, planning, systems, and controls

Professional Experience & Qualifications

· 8+ years of relevant experience in accounting, life science and biotech experience preferred

· Advanced knowledge of US GAAP and SOX

· Big 4 or Large National/Regional Audit experience as a Manager is a plus.

· Experience working on technical topics and formulating management’s position based on the fact-based pattern as it related to US GAAP.

· Familiar and comfortable with working in a growing company and able to work with all functions in the organization

· Excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail, organized and thorough with the desire for continuous improvement.

· Strong verbal and written communication skills

· Experience working in a global and/or public company preferred

Travel

International travel is expected for this position based on the business necessity.

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or equivalent
  • Active Certified Public Accountant or international equivalent

Job Type: Contract

Salary: $150.00 - $158.00 per hour
