Job description
To provide immediate and long-term planning, coordination and implementation of internal and external communications for the School District.
- Plans, creates and interprets district strategies and positions with key audiences at the local, state, and national level.
- Assists with delivery of emergency notifications.
- Assists in daily social media management.
- Provides strategic counsel on identifying, designing and implementing internal and external strategies to support and advance all system-wide reform initiatives and major programs.
- Prepares position papers and keynote addresses for the Superintendent.
- Acts as district content manager for printed or digital publications.
- Assists with all marketing/recruiting efforts for the district.
- Designs and implements internal and external strategies to support and advance all system-wide reform initiatives and major programs.
- Conducts training/professional development for administrative personnel on communication related topics.
- Serves as a member of the crisis team and district spokesperson for all major crises.
- Develops communication tools (video, print, etc.) to support system-wide or division level objectives.
- Plans and identifies relevant trends and coordinates appropriate action plans to prevent or resolve issues that impact the district.
- Advises the Executive Director of the status of programs, projects, policies, budgets, etc.
- Maintain open lines of communication and advises assigned staffs of pertinent and applicable information.
- Oversees district website.
- Oversees district newsletters.
- Flexibility, organization, decision-making, team building and problem solving skills.
- Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person and on the telephone.
- Knowledge of APS Community, computer system, financial and legal requirements.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work on multiple projects and coordinate the work of others.
- Demonstrated knowledge in the field of education and familiarity with current trends.
- Demonstrated leadership in working with students, staff, parents and others.
- Demonstrated competence in dealing with politically based issue
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or related field.
- Seven years of progressively responsible experience in areas such as communication, public relations, or a related field.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
