This position can be 100% remote as long as the candidate has the ability and is willing to travel as needed for trainings, meetings, and other business needs.
The Director of Business Development is responsible for managing and growing relationships with existing customers, developing them further into executable and profitable business ventures for the overall organization. The role contains elements of traditional business development as well as new business strategy and hands – on execution in accordance with the company’s vision, mission and values to achieve target profitability goals.
Some of the Essential Functions and responsibilities of the DBD:
- Develops and maintains a strong pipeline of partners and opportunities in strategically focused areas; tracks and reports on the status of all opportunities. Creates a business development plan and related strategy that ensures alignment with and attainment of company sales goals and profitability.
- Prepares and leads new business/new opportunity reviews with executive leadership team to review and approve strategic direction.
- Locates or proposes potential business opportunities by working with internal teams and external partners to discover and explore opportunities.
- Communicates back to internal teams the outcome of negotiations and proposals focusing on conveying the expectations set out by each group i.e. critical details, time frames and expectations.
- Develops negotiating strategies and positions by studying integration of new opportunities with company strategies and operations examining risks and potentials as well as estimating customer’s needs and goals.
- Leads in closing new business opportunities with existing customers by coordinating requirements, developing and negotiating contracts, and integrating contract requirements with other facets of the businesses operations.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining professional networks, and participating in professional organizations and conferences.
- Conducts market and trend assessments that result in actionable recommendations.
- Manages requirements, framing and reviews for the annual strategic plan as it relates to business development/new customer opportunities.
- Manages market and financial modeling for new business opportunities, develops budget and pricing forecasts, tests key assumptions and creatively sources data to fill gaps.
- Works with and uses metrics to create opportunity structure and execute market research studies.
- Protects organization by keeping relevant information confidential.
- Competitor Analysis:
- Maintains knowledge of the industry and the competition continually seeking information from others to challenge, modify and prioritize strategic opportunities. Collects data from their competitor’s sales tactics, prepares internal teams to counter them and always keeps the organization aware; Maintains awareness of industry trends and their impact on local/regional/national sales activities.
- Develops and maintains effective and appropriate communication throughout the organization
- Other tasks, assignments, and projects that will contribute to the growth and development of the company.
Education, Experience and Skills we are looking for:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience leading to roles in business development, strategy or another role related to structuring partnership for performance
- or
- 8/10 years of progressive experience leading to roles in business development, strategy or another role related to structuring partnership for performance
Desired:
- Advanced knowledge of the wood industry or experience in a similar manufacturing environment
- A track record of successfully delivering analyses that drive tactical and strategic decision making
- The ability to work with critical information synthesizing trends and insights in order to present potential opportunities to an executive audience
- Strong interpersonal skills; proven ability to communicate effectively and influence at various levels of the organization using relationship building and relevant technology
- A high level of analytical proficiency using Microsoft Excel, Power Point etc. as well as an ability to build business models internally and externally
- A highly organized, proactive and passionate approach to working in a fast paced and entrepreneurial environment with a broad range of responsibilities
- The ability to work autonomously
- The ability to travel 30% of the time
