Job description
ADPma, LLC is a high-growth aerospace company specializing in the design, certification, manufacturing, and sale of proprietary aircraft parts to the commercial and defense aerospace industries. Founded over 20 years ago in the East Tennessee foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, we have a well-established and hard-earned reputation for customer centricity and engineering excellence.
With the support of new ownership and a growing leadership team, we are aggressively expanding our product portfolio, adding value to our customers, and growing the company.
Our daily purpose is to enable safe, reliable, sustainable, and cost-effective flight worldwide.
To help us work toward our purpose and further accelerate our trajectory, we are recruiting a Director of Accounting and Information Systems to join our team. This individual will report directly to the President; will be a key player through our next stage of growth, expansion, and scaling; and will be chiefly accountable for accounting, financial reporting, strategic + operational insights, and forecasting; all in an effort to support our entrepreneurial, problem-solving team.
This is a full-time position working on-site at our headquarters in the Johnson City, TN area, alongside a growing team of approximately 25 engineers, quality control, sales, and administrative team members. We expect the annual salary compensation to be between $150,000-$200,000, depending on experience, skills, and cultural fit. Additionally, health insurance, profit-share, paid time off, and relocation assistance are also available.
We are looking for the rare person who thrives on bringing order to chaos with their own two hands on a daily basis, while also thinking strategically over the long term; who can be directly responsible for all things within the accounting and finance function, while also influencing excellence across the entire business; whose thirst for building scalable systems and processes rivals our existing engineering prowess and customer centricity; who brings an unbending commitment to objectivity, rigor, and rationality; and who has the fortitude to always vocalize what is true, especially when uncomfortable or unpopular.
This role will be a synthesis of the following responsibilities and tasks:
- Collaborate with the leadership team to:
- Enhance our collective analytical rigor, financial precision, business judgment, disciplined decision-making, and investor’s mindset.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Grow and enhance our existing culture of compliance, safety, ethical behavior, and good judgment.
- Track, analyze, and organize our costs and expenses, and regularly communicate your findings, concerns, and solutions to our team.
- Oversee the inventory cost accounting function with a focus on control implementation and process improvement, including automation and results analysis to support scale, growth, and improved profitability.
- Manage and execute the nuts-and-bolts of the financial side of our business, including payroll, AP, and AR, as well as accurate and timely month-end and year-end closing process and financial reporting.
- Build, implement, and enforce sensible internal controls, best practices, and procedures.
- Support colleagues across the organization on financial issues impacting their areas of accountability.
The following characteristics will resonate with the perfect candidate:
- You have at least 5+ years experience in a senior accounting position, preferably with a focus on cost accounting.
- You’re a unique blend of leader and doer.
- You’re a builder, who likes to deliver real and tangible value to the world, disrupt industries, and serve customers.
- You’re an optimizer, who loves to create order and clarity through the use of systems, processes, and data.
- You love business, growing, learning, and improving.
- You strive to be objective and rational, and to identify and mitigate biases, blind spots, and noise in decision-making.
- You’re eager to dive into a high-performing, rapidly-growing business, roll up your sleeves, and Get. Stuff. Done.
- You have a strong and clear voice focused on excellence, precision, education, and accountability.
- You have strong judgment and people often come to you for your opinion.
- You have experience with, or are eager to become an expert in, federal contracting and compliance.
- You have past experience standing up, stitching together, integrating, and rolling out web-based ERP and finance systems and software (e.g., QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, Quantum).
- You know what excellence and scale looks and feels like because you’ve been there before.
While it’s essential for us to outline the characteristics and competencies of the perfect candidate, it might be equally important to list the types of candidates who need not apply:
- A seat-filler, content to spend your time in a slow-moving, bureaucratic, low-growth environment.
- An order-taker, paralyzed by indecision until someone directs your day-to-day activity and tells you what to do.
- A maintainer, uneasy about growth rates above 10% CAGR.
- A bean-counter, committed to simply entering the numbers and nothing more.
- A political animal, who advances via corporate politics rather than value creation.
- A head in the sand, who wants to “just do my job” and not actively search for other ways to improve our business and team.
Finally, we think the following career experiences would be a “bonus” for this role (but are not a requirement):
- Demonstrated ability to scale product-based operations in a high-growth environment.
- Experience in aerospace, manufacturing, or federal contracting.
- Experience at a business which underwent hyper-growth (>100% YoY sustained for multiple years).
- CPA designation.
