Near has a great new opportunity for a Data Protection/Privacy Director to join our team. In this role you will create policies and procedures that are in accordance with all relevant data privacy regulations and codes of practice. You will actively and systematically embed and monitor data protection and privacy compliance within the organization, in accordance with required polices and procedures. The role presents a great opportunity to drive continuous data protection improvements and constructively challenge existing processes and procedures. Our ideal team member will have excellent organizational, communication, and management skills, as well as the ability to lead GDPR and local data protection training sessions and workshops with members of staff. You’ll often be asked to work independently in this role, but also to communicate with all relevant employees as you promote a culture of data protection compliance within the organization. To be successful in this role, you should have in-depth knowledge of GDPR and local data protection laws and be familiar with our industry and the nature of its data processing activities. You should also know how to perform audits to our current procedures.
A Day in the Life:
Act as the primary point of contact within the organization for members of staff, regulators, and any relevant public bodies on issues related to data protection
Act as the DPO (Data Protection Officer) for GDPR-related data privacy
Evaluate the existing data protection framework and identify areas of non or partial compliance and rectify any issues
Provide data protection advice and support for all staff
Inform and advise the Data Controller or Data Processor on all matters related to data protection
Promote a culture of data protection compliance across all units of the organization
Provide expert advice and educate employees on important data compliance requirements
Draft new and amend existing internal data protection policies, guidelines, and procedures, in consultation with key stakeholders
Hold training with staff members across different business units who are involved in data handling or processing
Proactively conduct audits to ensure compliance and address potential issues
Maintain records of all data processing activities carried out by the company
Serve as the point of contact between the company and the data protection authorities
Conduct data privacy training for all staff
What you bring to the role:
8-10+ years experience working in data protection compliance
Expertise in European data protection laws and practices including an in-depth understanding of the GDPR
Awareness of other data protection laws, including those of states in the US and other countries where Near does business
Experience within a legal, audit and/or risk function department
Strong project management skills
Ability to work well under pressure and manage sensitive and confidential information
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong attention to detail
Great interpersonal skills and ability to work well both independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
GRC certification from an accredited institution
Knowledge of or experience with AWS
Experience with mobile location data business models
Knowledge of data security best practices
