Summary Description
Responsible for all aspects of community relations including working in tandem with the group CEO to create an over all clear engagement strategy and set of goals for the system that includes planning, building and supporting focused initiatives designed to measurably improve community health. Results of these initiatives will be measured and reported to hospital leadership and community stakeholders as well others deemed appropriate by the CEO on a regular basis. This role will also be responsible for identifying, vetting and performing community speaking engagements, sponsorships, charitable giving, partnerships and will be responsible for community partner engagement.
This role will work closely with Detroit Group CEO on communications needs for community events as well as prepare talking points, presentations and other communications materials for hospital leadership as it relates to community health platform initiatives and other community engagement events and opportunities. In addition, this Director will be responsible for providing counsel to hospital leadership on community opportunities, leadership boards and other events to enhance the hospital and leadership profile within the community. Responsible for working with hospital leadership and Human Resources to audit, measure and enhance communications for staff and physicians. Works collaboratively with the Communications and Media Relations Director to ensure messaging is aligned across internal and external channels.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Community Engagement:
- Work with hospital leadership on a comprehensive community engagement plan that focuses on health initiatives for the community.
- Report monthly on community engagement activities.
- Lead all strategic community relations activities and efforts.
- Manage budget and make recommendations to group and hospital leadership on community relations opportunities.
- Liaison with home office community relations lead.
- Act as thought leader within the community in conjunction with group and hospital leadership and represent the DMC at community events.
- Attend community events and represent the DMC at community leader forums in conjunction with hospital leadership.
- Position the DMC as a leader in healthcare in the Detroit Community through strategic partnerships and charitable endeavors.
Internal Communications:
- Internal Communications auditing - review, audit and streamline all hospital internal communications channels. Identify gaps and opportunities on how to reach employees and physicians.
- Internal Communications planning - create annual internal communications plan to support key messaging.
- Work directly with hospital leadership and Human Resources to effectively and efficiently communicate all appropriate messages to employees and physicians.
- Lead all internal communications efforts for the Detroit group hospitals including newsletters, CEO messaging, talking points, employee town hall materials, physician communications, etc.
- Work with Communications and Media Relations Director to align external messages internally.
- Partner with Human Resources.
Social and Other:
- Social Media Management - work with the social media team to provide positive local content for posting across all social media channels within the group.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
1. Bachelor's degree in Communications or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
2. Ten years of progressively more responsible Community Outreach/Communications/Community Engagement experience. Experience in a health care setting strongly preferred. Experience creating community relationships within the City of Detroit preferred.
