This role can be done remotely.
This position has three primary responsibilities:
  • Ownership of the Akorn CMO business whereby a 3rd party manufactures their product within an Akorn facility. This includes the responsibility for identifying new opportunities for growth in accordance with the Akorn Alliance Management strategy.
  • Direct management and ownership of select CMO partners to Akorn whereby 3rd party support is required to commercialize an Akorn product. These products may be in R&D stage with a CMO yet to be determined or may be products already commercialized at a CMO.
  • Supporting the VP, Global Procurement in identifying, negotiating and closing business development deals, including but not limited to product or company acquisitions and licensing opportunities which support Akorn’s long-term vision and focus.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Provides a single point-of-contact for alliance management partners and a pathway for business/contractual issue resolution or other business-related matters
  • Leads the alliance management core support team that will provide guidance and direction to the other members of the team as needed to focus on the appropriate priorities.
  • Leads quarterly Alliance Management Overview for executive leadership. Present status updates to executive leadership as needed.
  • Identifies new potential opportunities for Akorn to act as a CMO along with new potential licensing and acquisition opportunities in collaboration with VP, Global Procurement.
  • Negotiates new CMO and alliance management agreements and changes to existing agreements via quotes, proposals, etc. Also will have responsibility for directly negotiating licensing arrangements for opportunities of interest to Akorn. Works with Legal and other internal stakeholders to review and execute agreement renewals and amendments as necessary.
  • May attend joint team meetings and/or on-site collaborator visits to stay abreast of joint team progress and tracking to contractual obligations.
  • Proactively tracks, monitors and communicates contract milestones, obligations and any financial payments.
  • Participates in the decision making process for new product selection, both for products Akorn intends to develop in-house as well as those to be targeted through business development initiatives.
  • Maintains contacts with industry partners and develops new relationships with potential partners in business development.
  • Recommends new, enhanced or revised opportunities as appropriate.
  • Understands Akorn's strategies, objectives and goals; as these potentially relate to collaborations.
  • Works with various Akorn functions to establish effective governance structures, strategies and processes to maximize the potential value and operational success of pending collaborations.
  • Develops strong working relationships with key involved parties for each project, internally and externally. Strives to proactively anticipate and address business-related needs of the parties to optimize joint project team success.
  • Educates team members on contract terms, obligations, milestones and roles and responsibilities.
  • Monitors and enforces compliance to various Service Level Agreements of the partner as well as those of Akorn.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in the Pharmaceutical Industry; prior experience in business development, alliance management, and/or third party operations preferred
  • Bachelor's degree required with major or concentration in Business or Operations Management preferred
  • Master's degree or MBA preferred
