Job Responsibilities/Duties
Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS) seeks a Designer Specialist to join the Design Services organization. The Designer Specialist will be tasked to work with Design Engineers in the planning, scheduling, conducting, and coordinating detailed phases of design, assisting with man-hour estimates, and schedules. Ensure designs are developed in quality manner, compliant with requirements, procedures, on schedule, and within budgeted hours. Coordinate with personnel in other departments, project managers and client personnel to review designs and resolve areas of concern. Perform field walkdowns and inspections, take measurements, prepare field sketches and notes.

Ability to solve problems and resolve immediate issues. The position requires the ability to analyze a situation, determine the best course of action, identify the required resources, give direction and follow through according to applicable policies and procedures, innovative approaches to problem solving and seeking continuous improvement must be accomplished on the spot due to time and schedule constraints that prevail at tank farm facilities.

  • Prepare routine to moderately complex designs for Structure, Systems and Components (SSC);
  • Assist in the development of drafting standards in accordance with site criteria;
  • May perform planning and coordinating of detailed CAD work;
  • Assist in generating and reviewing design change forms;
  • Resolve existing design discrepancies with the most cost effective approach to meet design criteria;
  • Prepare fabrication and construction specifications and details;
  • Prepare plant layouts and study drawings using CAD tools from which construction drawings are completed;
  • Ensure that designs are consistent with project technical requirements and scope;
  • Participate in evaluation and resolution of technical issues;
  • Perform investigations and prepare technical reports for recommended actions; and
  • Perform field walk downs for as-found conditions and to resolve design questions and installation issues.

Required Qualifications
Grade 19:
AA/AAS degree in related field and 12 years of related experience as a Designer, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience; two (2) years of related experience must be in the Nuclear industry.

Grade 20:
AA/AAS degree in related field and 14 years of related experience as a Designer, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience; two (2) years of related experience must be in the Nuclear industry.

Desired Qualifications
* Experience with AutoCAD
  • Mechanical/piping and/or Electrical and/or Civil Structural design drafting experience relating to facility modifications and support preferred
  • Experience in mechanical equipment, piping, pipe supports, electrical equipment, electrical diagrams and schedules, structural, civil, plot plans, plans, sections and details preferred
  • 5+ years of incorporating change notices and updating drawings preferred
  • Familiar with construction practices and issues related to an operating nuclear facility preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Autodesk Inventor preferred

Compensation & Benefits
Grade 19:
Hiring Range Minimum: $111,588
Hiring Range Maximum: $140,663

Grade 20:
Hiring Range Minimum: $122,813
Hiring Range Maximum: $154,838

In accordance with the company's philosophy on compensation for exempt and salaried non-exempt employees, WRPS takes into consideration a variety of factors when determining initial salary to include assigned job scope and responsibility, a candidate's qualifications as compared to internal comparators performing in a similar role, and the external labor market. A salary offer will be made within the targeted hiring range posted. Note a candidate's prior salary history will not be taken into consideration.
