POSITION SUMMARY
Radiology Partners is looking for a Mammography Supervisor who will under general supervision of a radiologist, perform mammography procedures to assist in the diagnosis of disease or injury and coordinates quality control activities for the site-specific mammography department; assists the Imaging Facility Manager in the coordination of patient care and workflow activities of the site-specific modality. Performs all functions related to FDA/MQSA/State inspections; acts as resource for affiliated facilities; provides training oversight and educational needs.
Availability: Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm
This position is eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus
POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Leads and participates in the day-to-day functions of the modality. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
§ Serving as the initial contact for modality-specific issues.
§ Monitoring/troubleshooting issues related to workflow, work processes, and backlog.
§ Providing timely feedback to the Imaging Facility Manager regarding modality-specific issues.
§ Training new staff members.
§ Providing written feedback to the Imaging Facility Manager for staff performance reviews.
§ Responsible for Updating Modality Specific Protocols and Policies
§ Quality Control of Modality (Monitoring Teammates Quality)
§ Continuing Education for Modality (example: New Procedures, New Technology, Refresher Training for struggling teammates)
§ Ensure proper performance of PM’s on all mammographic units by working with the Field Engineer to schedule them and block sites as needed. Communicate those blocks to the appropriate parties.
2. Performs mammography procedures as prescribed by a physician. Follows established techniques and methods in operating equipment and processing images. Ensures technical quality of images and exercises judgment in processing assigned work load. Practices radiation safety by applying ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles.
3. Prepares patients for mammography procedures. In doing so, escorts patients to dressing and mammography rooms and provides verbal and written instructions. Positions patient and adjusts equipment, selecting length and intensity for radiation exposure on an individual basis. Uses appropriate compression with due consideration to the particular circumstances of each case. Ensures safety procedures and universal precautions are used at all times.
4. Assesses the patient’s previous exams/reports in include loading or digitizing outside studies, if available/applicable, prior to performing the mammography procedure. Reviews the referral form for each procedure and ensures accuracy of the referral in the system; accurately communicates the referral to the radiologist. For certain procedures, may administer medication as prescribed by a physician.
5. Performs related technical and/or administrative duties which include, but are not limited to:
§ Completing necessary paperwork and labeling images.
§ Reviewing scheduled patient appointments.
§ Coordinating the exam with other modalities.
§ Communicating “stat” results to referring physicians.
§ Performing all necessary functions relating to the RIS/PACS.
§ Assisting patient at all times (including on and off the table and from a vehicle, if necessary).
§ Assisting the front office and scheduling staff with technical questions regarding mammography procedures. Communicating with front office staff as to status of schedule.
6. Maintains adequate level of supplies in examination rooms and reorders as necessary. Ensures equipment is operating properly and contacts appropriate party for equipment repair in order to ensure safe and efficient examination of patients.
7. Actively participates in the quality-assurance monitoring and recording efforts of the department. Coordinates and monitors Quality Control (QC) documentation and lead duties related to ACR accreditation. Create and/or conduct/coordinate training/education workshops for staff.
8. Continues to develop professionally; maintains registry and licensure and current knowledge of the mammography profession to ensure continued contributions to the patients, referring physicians, and the company. Actively work to stay abreast of any new State/FDA/MQSA requirements and regulations.
9. Act as a liaison between Desert Radiology facilities and the state and MQSA inspections.
Monitor, complete, and submit annual state licensure renewals in a timely fashion to avoid unnecessary interruptions in day to day performance of mammography.
10. Assist Modality manager with maintaining rolling stats and CEU’s for both technologists and radiologists.
11. Maintain current and accurate radiologist and technologist books.
12. Assist affiliated facilities with their credentialing and inspection process.
13. Fulfill FDA EQUIP requirements.
DESIRED PROFESSIONAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
1. Knowledge of basic radiologic methods and techniques normally acquired through completion of twenty-four-month radiologic technology training program and through Nevada State Mammography License
2. Knowledge of quality care and radiation safety standards for mammography (ALARA)
3. Knowledge and work experience necessary in order to independently conduct routine and specialized radiologic tests, to assist physicians with special techniques or procedures, and to become familiar with physician and department work methods and facility policies and procedures
4. Knowledge of and experience in using office equipment including telephone, fax, computer and photocopier
5. Knowledge of and experience in using radiology-related computer systems (RIS/PACS)
6. Interpersonal skills necessary in order to effectively interact with physicians, other facility staff, patients and families when providing instructions or responding to questions or exchanging patient-related information
7. Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient record information
8. Ability to complete 200 mammograms in any rolling 24-month window as required by MQSA
9. Analytical skills necessary in order to conduct routine radiographic tests and review results for accuracy and quality, to verify patient information, to complete material for medical record, and to monitor supply levels
10. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when conducting or assisting with diagnostic radiologic procedures
11. Ability to lift a minimum of 60 pounds when assisting and positioning body parts or handling and transporting supplies
12. Sound judgment, flexibility, problem-solving skills
13. Leadership skills
14. Knowledge of ACR Accreditation Processes
15. Knowledge of FDA/MQSA/State Inspection requirements and processes.
REQUIREMENTS
1. Current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) recognized by the American Heart Association
2. Current American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registration.
3. Current licensure in mammography from the State of Nevada.
4. Minimum 1 – 3 years mammography technologist experience and demonstrated leadership abilities.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Employee works in patient care area and is exposed to contagious diseases, infectious wastes and bodily fluids, and ionizing radiation throughout the workday. Potential for injury is limited when proper safety and health precautions are followed.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS
Position requires varied physical activities including sitting, walking, bending, reaching, lifting and stooping; requires eye-hand coordination, finger dexterity, and occasional lifting and/or carrying items; requires ability to lift a minimum of 60 pounds when assisting and positioning body parts or handling and transporting supplies. Position may be stressful at times.
