Job Title: Deputy Managing Editor

Salary range: $75-100k/year

Remote

In this position, you will:

• make editorial decisions on what stories to cover, review copy, and guide journalists/reporters on stories
• ensure we report fully, fairly, and accurately on all stories
• craft compelling headlines and understand how to package content
• contribute written articles daily

We are also looking for candidates with:

• experience as a successful full-time crime or court editor/reporter
• a strong legal background
• a strong knowledge of Associated Press style
• comfort and experience working in fast-paced competitive news environment
• knowledge on how to obtain and read legal documents and derive news content from them
• familiarity with Wordpress
• a track record working collaboratively with fellow writers and editors
• the ability to accept constructive criticism;
• the drive to care about being first — but who care even more about being accurate

This is a remote position and will be solely focused on the Law&Crime website, but lawandcrime.com is part of the broader Law&Crime family. The Law&Crime Network is a 24/7 source for live trials and legal analysis, and Law&Crime Productions is a growing source of documentaries and original programming for networks such as Netflix, Hulu, Lifetime and A+E.
