Description:

Truman National Security Project seeks a Deputy Director of Professional Development and Impact to partner with the Vice President of Impact and Community in achieving maximum member engagement across all class years, chapters, and cohorts of the Truman National Security Project. Together, we’ll unlock the capacity of our full membership by identifying critical skill sets and building professional development opportunities that empower our members to lead. We will elevate and expand our member efforts, expertise, and experience, assess what’s working, match talent to need across the membership, and seek recognition and funding to scale our success and impact.

Truman National Security Project (TNSP) is a vibrant, diverse, nationwide membership community of leaders leveraging the power of the Truman network to develop smart national security solutions that reinforce strong, just, and effective American global leadership. TNSP and its sister organization, the Truman Center for National Policy (TCNP), offer timely, principled, and innovative solutions to pressing national security challenges. We believe that how we conduct ourselves in international engagement matters and that our effectiveness abroad depends on the choices we make at home.

The ideal candidate for this new role is passionate about identifying opportunities for leaders to succeed - and even more excited about helping our members access the resources they need to grow their individual and collective impact. If you thrive on providing a supportive environment where constructive dialogue and meaningful learning and growth can flourish, and if you get excited about helping leaders identify pathways to excellence through uncovering, cultivating, and connecting talent, this role may be perfect for you.

From the Vice President of Impact and Community: I am looking for a colleague excited about an inclusive US foreign policy that makes American lives better and cares deeply about empowering and elevating communities of practice poised to deliver. You are a mid-career professional passionate about helping people connect, learn, and grow. You understand the importance of data-driven solutions and are adept at meaningful data collection and analysis as part of a continuous learning cycle. You thrive on developing best practices for facilitating tough conversations and understand the importance of community and collaboration. Your best day is when someone you’ve mentored, trained or supported has a well-deserved moment in the spotlight. You feel gratified when you’ve connected people working on similar efforts and helped them to collaboratively scale their impact beyond what they imagined possible. If this inspires you to be part of what we’re building, you’re the person we need. Join a team of people who genuinely like and root for each other and support and celebrate each other’s diversity, personally and professionally. Apply today!

  • Angelic Young, Vice President of Impact and Community

Truman’s Commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice: Truman National Security Project is a leader in the movement to advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice (DEIJ) as national security imperatives. In consultation with our Boards of Directors, Truman members, and a wide range of stakeholders, Truman continues to make strides toward creating a more just and equal world. Expanding the diversity of Americans who contribute to every level of the U.S. national security and foreign policy community enhances our nation’s security and strengthens U.S. global leadership and moral authority. American foreign policy is strongest when a variety of thoughts and perspectives are reflected in our domestic policies and foreign affairs.

Studies have shown that women, nonbinary folks, and People of Color are less likely to apply for jobs unless they believe they meet every single qualification in a job description. We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive organization and are most interested in finding the best candidate for the job. That candidate may come from a background less traditional to our field of work, and that’s okay. We strongly encourage you to apply, even if you don’t believe you meet all the qualifications described. But be sure to include a thoughtful cover letter with your application. No candidate will not be considered without one.
