Job Description
The Crisis Hotline Advocate provides crisis intervention, support, advocacy, and security for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, both over the phone and in person. This position includes evening, night and weekend hours with a regular schedule Noon to 8 pm, Saturday and Sunday; fill in other days as needed.
Responsibilities for the Crisis Hotline Advocate include, but are not limited to the following:
- Crisis Intervention/Emergency: The Crisis Hotline Advocate increases safety factors for victims of domestic and sexual violence who call searching for shelter and/or other resources. The Crisis Hotline Advocate is trained in all emergency procedures, i.e. hotline calls, calling emergency personnel, de-escalation of crises, and other related emergencies.
- Intake of new residents: Intakes often begin by working with local law enforcement agencies and other community partners to transport victims to the shelter. Crisis Hotline Advocate will assist residents in entering shelter or finding other safe locations, reducing feelings of crisis, and enhancing feelings of safety. The Crisis Hotline Advocate is then responsible for completing all required intake paperwork.
- Orientation: These procedures ensure that shelter residents are aware of all shelter guidelines, are introduced to other residents, and know what to do in case of an emergency.
- Advocacy: Crisis Hotline Advocates may provide direct support services to victims of sexual assault and family violence. These services include crisis intervention, hospital advocacy and referrals, legal advocacy, when requested.
- In addition, Crisis Hotline Advocates will complete case management and all other required paperwork and documentation for each shift that is worked.
- All Crisis Hotline Advocates will attend training as requested by administration.
- Assist the Case Manager and Residential Advocates with client transport, as needed.
- Assist with quality assurance processes and other office duties.
- Metal detecting and taking inventory of personal items for safety protocols.
- Complete shelter rounds and infection control prevention checks at the appropriate time during shift.
- Crisis Hotline Advocates report to the Shelter Manager who works directly with the Executive Director.
- Complete other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent, preference for higher education in the human service field
- 1 – 3 years’ experience in the human services and willing to work with victims of domestic and sexual violence
- Must be able and willing to work nights, evenings, and weekends
- Clear a background check through Missouri Dept of Health and Senior Services
- Must have valid driver’s license

DOL STATUS: Non-Exempt
Job Type: Part-Time
Salary: $15.00 per hour with $2.00 per hour shift differential
