The Portfolio/Risk Manager will join a third line' Credit Review team which objectively evaluates credit risk and opines on the effectiveness of credit risk management activities within the company. The selected individual will develop and maintain an infrastructure that provides data driven insights that support an independent assessment of credit risk across the various portfolios subject to review. This position will participate in all phases of the analytics lifecycle, including specifying data capture requirements, preparing and cleansing data, analyzing patterns and trends in structured and unstructured data, and convey associated insights and recommendations. The ideal candidate will have a passion for using the power of data and technology to formulate data-driven insights and drive efficiency in the execution, observations and reporting of credit examinations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as department subject matter expert and Lead the identification of analytics and automation opportunities within the Credit Review function .
  • Apply visualization techniques to data sources to make accurate and actionable analyses in a timely fashion.
  • Create self-service dashboards for internal colleagues to learn, understand, have access to, and derive insights from data, metrics, and KPIs.
  • Develop and maintain data analysis tools to identify emerging credit risks within each loan portfolio as part of Credit Review’s independent assessment of credit risk and to enhance examination risk-based sampling approach. This includes the analysis of application trends, risk rating migration root causes, management reporting, portfolio performance, and review/assessment of key credit metrics (i.e., KPIs, KRIs and asset quality metrics).
  • Ability to document, dashboard, or process function lineage through the form of job aids and/or guides.
  • Lead and execute analytics projects , leveraging credit risk data experience and business acumen to observe key trends/threats/inaccuracies and drivers of those observations.
  • Apply automation techniques to manual processes to create efficiency, improve accuracy, and drive self-service utilization/consumption of data.
  • Work with management to effectively challenge risk management processes and controls, specifically within credit risk management functions.
  • Build trusted relationships with credit leaders and stakeholders, including credit data and reporting teams.
  • Ability to build effective presentations to communicate analytical findings to a wide array of audiences ( i.e., credit leaders and stakeholders) Contribute to the development and execution of Credit Review’s annual and strategic plans
  • Participate in corporate committees and working groups, as needed.
  • Champion corporate policies and procedures, including credit policies and standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 10 years financial service industry experience
  • 5 or more years of Banking analytical experience involving data mining or portfolio reporting/analytics
  • 3 or more years of SQL, Tableau, Python, R, SAS, or related languages for reporting and data analysis

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in a business or technical field, emphasis on analytics and statistics
  • Strong critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication (written and verbal) skills,
  • Excellent quantitative and analytic skills; ability to derive patterns, trends, and insights, and perform risk/reward trade-off analysis
  • Ability to work independently and as part of cross-functional teams
  • Can manage competing priorities and deliver high quality work in a timely fashion
  • Experience leading and mentoring other colleagues
  • Familiarity with the commercial banking industry terminology, credit risk management concepts, and financial statements
  • Passion for continuous learning and development
