Job Description
Title: Court/Victim Advocate/English-Spanish Bilingual
Location: Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office-Victim Witness Center

Description: The Victim Witness Center team provides crime victims with initial and ongoing emotional support and advocacy throughout interactions with law enforcement and others within the criminal justice system as necessary. We are looking for candidates with a sound work ethic and an interest in public service who will perform the job with compassion and respect for our diverse group of clients and our staff, and who will uphold the highest ethical standards. The position requires incumbents to commit to a flexible schedule when court requires attendance after 5 p.m. for jury verdicts, late interviews, etc.
Requirements:
Duties:
- Provide support to Spanish-speaking victims and witnesses as needed.
- Provide victims with all information regarding possible restitution and assist in the gathering of documents as needed. All restitution requests will be scanned into the specific case.
- Keep all dates of caseload court settings on a calendar and review court calendars daily.
- Manage advocate coverage for all court appearances relating to assigned team.
- Contact all victims/witnesses at time of filing; maintain contact during the entirety of the case.
- Maintain and update good contact information for all assigned witnesses/victims.
- Send letters, make calls with any case updates.
- Advise victims/witnesses on assigned cases of the following: case status, hearing dates, and outcome of case as well as helping to quell fears and concerns.
- Be present for any court hearings for assigned cases.
- Coordinate all victims and witnesses on assigned cases for preliminary hearing and jury trial testimony.
- Schedule and be present for all lay witness and victim interviews.
- Take detailed notes of interviews and email copy of notes to appropriate ADA assigned to the case.
- Arrange out of state travel arrangements for victims and witnesses on assigned cases.
- Maintain and report accurate required statistics to director, grant coordinator and finance director as instructed by the VOCA grants.
Skills:
- Ability to be a calming presence for crime victims.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and with initiative as well as to be part of a team.
- Ability to multitask in a busy environment, working with multiple attorneys and members of legal staff.
- Computer skills, primarily MS office including word and excel, and knowledge of office machines such as phone, copier/fax and printer.
- Knowledge of legal terminology a plus.
- Ability, with or without accommodation, to meet the physical requirements of the job, which is in a high-traffic office setting with moderate noise. While performing the duties of this job, attendant is regularly required to talk and hear, stand and walk, sit, bend and stoop; use hands and fingers to handle and manipulate objects; must occasionally reach with hands and arms, and may be required to lift or move up to ten (10) pounds. Close vision is required.
Education/Experience – High School diploma or equivalent. Relevant work experience preferred.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. To 5 p.m. and after hours as needed to provide ongoing victim/witness support.
