Paints and Props Apprentice
Northern Stage, a LORT D 240 seat regional theater in White River Junction, VT, seeks a

Paints and Props Apprentice for its 2022-2023 season. Northern Stage produces a mainstage
season, an education season, a New Works festival, and 4-6 other events year-round. This
Apprenticeship is a learning experience, and will provide the opportunity for the employee to
hone their skills under the tutelage of experienced professionals.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Work with the Scenic Charge Artist, Props Master and other production team members to

execute, load-in and strike all paint and prop-related builds/projects for productions and
events.

  • Keep paint and props work areas clean and safe.
  • Assist in procuring props from local businesses and other theatres.
  • Take on small craft projects in the props department.
  • Act as part of a run crew as needed.
  • Provide support for events outside the mainstage and education seasons.
  • Support other production departments as needed.
Qualifications:
Interest in and knowledge of theatrical building techniques.
  • Ability to read construction drawings and build plans.
  • Proficiency in hand and power tools.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work quickly and accurately with attention to detail,
maintaining a positive attitude in stressful environments.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a box truck.
  • Comfortable working at heights in excess of 20 feet in a lift and on a tension mesh grid.
  • Ability to safely lift 50 lbs.
  • College degree in technical theatre a plus.

Job Type Full time, with some nights and weekends required
Contract Dates: ASAP (start date flexible)- 5/28/23
Compensation: $12.55/h + overtime paid at time and a half
Benefits: Dental, Vision, Life insurance, and PTO. Subsidized housing available for rent through
Northern Stage.
